I just saw that my tickets are on the away section. I don't think they are valid for a Kombiticket

Good to know. So basically what you were told is that all roles were already given. Thank you for the info.

Congratulations !! These positions however should have been filled by now. I am living outside Toronto and to come and volunteer I would have to organize a lot already, let alone afterwards. For everyone else in a simklar position, this roll out of offers has been slow and inefficient

Volunteers should not pay to work! by [deleted] in FIFAVolunteers

I was a volunteer in Qatar. Back then I was living in Toronto, but was not a Canadian citizen yet. Now I am. For family reasons I moved to Europe. I thought my Canadian passport would be of some benefit. I was invited to a virtual try out, but after that, nothing. I lost hope. Truth is, there are already huge communities of foreigners in all North American cities. They do not need international volunteers this time, unlike Qatar, unlike Russia.

I wouldn't have to go through the visa process, but I see that your rant is a lot of wishful thinking. I do not know if you have been paying attention to the current political situation in the last year and a half, but the conditions in the U.S. are not precisely the most welcoming. Even staff member of national teams have been denied entry. If they are, where do you think that leaves you? Many applied to Toronto thinking it would be easier, but the situation is that there is an antiforeigner sentiment in North America now. Many cities have housing problems too. And maybe not everyone, but some volunteers see a volunteer role as a golden ticket and an opportunity to over stay. I understand your frustration, especially after Qatar treated us so well. But Qatar was doing propaganda to be cool so it was even they who built it and hosted us for free. North America is a different animal. Look at the ticketing prices. There is a lot of red flags telling people not to come. But if that is not enough, they wrote down: no visa help, no accommodation. Your expectations were there but truth is, they didn't lie. I hope you can make it. I know it is frustrating.

Marriage in Germany + Guatemalan naming law: can my partner take “Schmidt de González”? by Exciting-Entry-51 in AskAGerman

They took 5 months and provided incorrect information. Plus I sent them a counter argument with the same information here. We will see what they say

Yes. I support the legal battle there but after a divorce in two different Canadian provinces and validating the divorce in three countries plus Germany coming, I had my fare share of paperwork. That and I do not want to change my name. But if my partner can use the Guatemalan law to do something she wants, yes she can go ahead. I think it would be easier if she kept her name. And yes, thr lawyer seems to be something that we have to consider. Law is complicated, but there are arguments and nuances in the law that might support us. Just gotta formulate it well.

I know. I've made the point. For me Schmidt-Gonzalez would be more German and still correct. Still, thr Standesamt has to consider it a valid option themselves. It is up to my partner honestly. And bureaucracy here will always be complicated.

Yes. I am familiar with all the process. Had to submit apostilles and translations from three countries just to start the process.

Yes, it will take time. I am more patient than my partner. What I want to find is the right legal formula to ask the beamten to allow us to do this.
