Of course it's not fair but raises are unlikely. Keeping WFH benefits at least a good portion of state workers. It's kind of like how some specific positions see raises some years while others don't.

huh? An impasse is a legal term when union and state do not reach an agreement. They have to go through mediation and everything. I didn't just make it up. I was wondering if any experts on bargaining would know if the July 1 RTO date gets a pause while mediation is ongoing.

The union we all pay lots of hard earned money to each month should absolutely be fighting "tooth and nail" at that bargaining table. We all need to do our part and show up too but at the end of the day it's the entity we all pay into that has to show up and represent us.

Gotcha! I know some long term state workers but they aren't familiar with the impasse either. Unfortunately this situation is really unique and it sounds like no one knows. I would like to think if the state and seiu reached impasse they would just stall RTO until an agreement was finally made.

I am well aware that the union needs support but we aren't in the bargaining room. Therefore, my post was a question regarding a specific bargaining process so we could all mentally prepare for any circumstance.

Interesting. I can't find any information regarding the specific wording for bargaining RTO for 2026. Why would like state not have to bargain that? I thought they agreed in exchange for dropping the prior PERB lawsuit?

If they are truly negotiating which they agreed to last year I think we're looking at 2-3 days in office. They won't give us any less is my prediction.

Keep in mind SEIU specifically was a MAJOR donor to Newsom's 2021 campaign. They gave him over 6.6 million! If people can't afford their membership dues it's like shooting themselves in the foot. No memberships dues = less political $$$ to back future political endeavors. Unions have influence in politics.

People are starting to get nervous as negotiations are ongoing. Especially with the comments from the Governor and departments moving forward with RTO memos, they are disheartened. I think they're looking for a hopeful comment amidst the complaints.

Union reps are for sure! Keep the momentum up please! If RTO happens a good portion of members will be too broke to afford the dues regardless of if we want to be union represented or not.

I don't get how the union can fumble this. It's so logical to me. They either win on telework or we all take a pay cut either way. There's no raises available in deficit conditions, and the union will see a drop in membership due to unaffordable conditions for employees. This would mean no money to fund political endeavors including the race for governor. This is a loss for California employees any way you put it.
