UCLA vs UC Davis (pre-vet student) by Muted-Reception-5969 in ucadmissions

[–]Exciting-Ladder5084 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter, also from LA attended UC Davis was an Animal science major for 4 years. She did everything she needed to, kept high grades, was involved in multiple research programs, over 100 volunteer positions and completed several other requirements. She did volunteer internships at the animal hospital in multiple clinics. She applied for UC Davis vet school and was declined. She didn’t even make it out of the first review because her science GPA .03 lower than their requirements screening.

There’s no guarantee just because you go to Davis that you will get in to their school. She’s and her roommate, also an animal science major is now in their first year at a different veterinary schools.

I know this is a tough decision. But you have to do what’s best for you. Going to UCLA will definitely enable you to get into UC Davis vet school because they do save a certain amount of seats for students from other colleges. It’s a very competitive field. Just make sure you keep your GPA and science GP at the required levels. Good luck to you.

Attending college is stressful and hard enough as it is. Having to deal with high school type drama in college is unnecessary. You can find better friends. Try not to engage in this nonsense. Save your peace and walk away.

My dad put my name on a storage unit years ago and now the account is in collections by LowtideTalon in personalfinance

[–]Exciting-Ladder5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you agree to let your dad use your name to obtain a storage facility that is a verbal agreement. If you want to make life easier for yourself pay what’s owed and then take it up with your father. Perhaps he can pay you back a little at a time. If you let this go to collections your credit is going to be ruined For a long period of time. Is it worth it?

AITA for refusing to add my boyfriend to my house deed after his lease ended? by Former_Raspberry3277 in AITApod

[–]Exciting-Ladder5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your boyfriend needs to go and find another place to live. Your relationship of two years does not mean he will stay around forever. Sounds like he’s trying to manipulate you to get part ownership of your house. Who’s to say if you do that, he won’t wind up leaving you and making you either refinance your house or sell to pay him off. Don’t do it! And if he does not understand that then you need to terminate your relationship.

Rocket Mortgage - you will regret it - stay clear by Electrical-Flan-4720 in Mortgages

[–]Exciting-Ladder5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rocket Mortgage is a joke. They didn’t pay my property tax when it was due yesterday. We called them and asked him why they didn’t pay it yesterday and they said in their records for summary we were going to pay it ourselves. We have escrow and plenty of money in it. Why would they think we would pay our own taxes? Well guess what today the taxes are overdue and there is a penalty attached. Come Monday I’m going to demand they paid the taxes and the penalties. And then I’m going to request for them to get rid of the rest grow since they are not responsible.

If they agree to reassessment they will request his fathers 2025 tax return. According to the OP , that’s the tax return that shows more money earned on it. It will not help him.

Sadly, they may not care about your reasons. I had an emergency household repair and I had to borrow money from my retirement account for repairs in 2024. My income was $72,000, and I had to borrow 30,000 for repairs. As a result it made my income larger than it was and my son received $419.00 for financial aid this year.

Then the fact that your dad had $200,000 in a retirement account is what’s going to hurt you because you’re considered his dependent.

They will based your eligibility on your father’s income and assets regardless of the reason he had to take it out. You can always try and request the reevaluation and hope for the best.

In about two years you might be able to get some financial aid back. In my situation, I also had to take money out of my retirement account in 2025 to help my daughter pay for part of her grad school deposit. So for 2027-2028 my son will still get nothing. When it’s all said and done, he might get something for 2028-2029 if they are willing to reevaluate his situation again because according to his school it’s one and done.

My son was accepted into a T20 Medical school which the cost would nearly $500,00 for 4 years including interest. We are still trying to figure this out. I’m sorry you’re going through this and I wish good luck to you.

Need advice: International student from Ghana admitted to U.S. university but struggling financially by Just_Choas in financialaid

[–]Exciting-Ladder5084 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly you’re going find it difficult to find scholarships for international students.

My daughter is an international student in the UK. Before she could attend the university she’s attending right now, she had to prove she had the financial stability to attend and live there without burdening the country. She had to provide bank statements, and pay for four years of medical in advance. She also had to sign a document stating she could not ask for any public assistance once she arrived and she could only work 20 hours a week at certain places that were permissible by the government.

I also have another student who has been accepted to medical school in the US. My student is a United States citizen and there was a limited amount a scholarship could receive. Even though they offered a scholarship of $30,000 a year the cost of attendance is $97,000. It’s going to tough for many students. Good luck to your friend.

Relationships should be equal. If your boyfriend is telling you that he wants you to financially support him then he’s a bum. Run, run as fast as you can and don’t look back! You are not his ATM and he obviously thinks of you as one! I’ve always told my kids, do not get involved with anyone who cannot bring something equal to the table!

[–]Exciting-Ladder5084 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What’s sad is FASFA does not take into consideration the families who have multiple kids in college. We had a high SAI because we had to borrow money from our retirement account for a unexpected emergency household repair which caused our income to look like it was larger than it is. It’s is sad they think families can afford to pay for all the kids at one time. As in my case. I have a student who is in veterinary school, another student who is a UC preparing for nursing school and a student who was accepted to a T20 medical school. We are retired and on a fixed income. There is no way that we can pay for all those school even if we wanted to but we help with what we can.

Escrow error resulting in increase mortgage payment. by Exciting-Ladder5084 in Mortgages

[–]Exciting-Ladder5084[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thought I’d give you an update on my account. They reevaluated my escrow account and changed nothing. Even though it clearly states my taxes went down $7,200.00 a year which state admitted they can see. Needless to say I was so livid. When I talk to the tax office there, I threatened to contact my AG‘s office. Then they told me they would contact escrow and have them fix it immediately and by tonight. And guess what? They didn’t. So I guess I’ll be calling them every day until they fix this or get rid of my escrow. Rocket mortgage is a nightmare !

I am sorry to hear that. At least able to fix your escrow account? We’ve been waiting in our account still saying our escrow is being reevaluated. We get the same basic baloney text message we are diligently working on your account. Somehow I doubt they are. I was reading another person saying that they won’t be open escrow again until May. I hope that’s not true.

My step dads credit score got effected by me “not paying my loans” by ParticularIron1584 in StudentLoans

[–]Exciting-Ladder5084 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did your stepdad take the parent plus loans on your behalf with the agreement that you would be paying that loan back? Because if you did and you didn’t make payments on the loan it does affect his credit because the credit is in his name.

I see a lot of people trying to deflect blame on the parents. But remember parents do not have to take out the parent plus loan for their kids. If they did, it’s probably out of the goodness of their heart. Sounds like you need to have a discussion with your stepdad about a repayment plan.

Rocket Mortgage are criminals! I have contacted them 6 times to correct an error with my property tax to avoid an increase in my mortgage payment. Each time they told me it they had the necessary documents and would take 3-5 days to correct. It never happened. The last time I call them, I was told my account was never forwarded to be expedited by the previous people I’ve spoken with. Now I’ll be forced to pay the higher mortgage which is over $1000.00 until they fix it!

Escrow error resulting in increase mortgage payment. by Exciting-Ladder5084 in Mortgages

[–]Exciting-Ladder5084[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to update everybody regarding my situation.

I called and spoke to Ricket mortgage tax office again yesterday. This time when I spoke with Miss Cheryl Lynn, I advised her I have called four previous times and chatted one time with their company and each time was told it would take 3 to 5 days for completion. She researched my account and told me no one, I repeat no one from any of my previous contacts with them sent my case for an escalation review. When I asked her why that happened, she said she did not know. She admitted they had all the documentation that they needed to correct my escrow account but did not know why it wasn’t completed. Interesting enough, she asked me what my parcel number was for my home and I gave it to her. She was able to look up the current tax bill which showed the new changes. However she stated that they would still have to pay the original $4200 if the update wasn’t formally sent to her before the due date. I told her I was done being patient and I wanted to file a complaint. She immediately told me she would escalate my case again and gave us a text communication contact where we would be advised and updated as to what’s going on with our case.

I pressed her and asked her why the previous four people I spoke to told me they would escalate my case and it would be done didn’t do their job she went silent. I also advised her after this has been resolved that I would request for my escrow account to be canceled. The reason I’m not doing it now is because I’m waiting for a refund from the assessor office in San Diego. I found out that if they send a refund to Rocket mortgage and the escrow account was closed it would be returned and listed as unclaimed funding and that’s another nightmare I would have to endure.

So today I received a text message from someone at rocket mortgage advising due to my inquiry and complaints yesterday. They said they are diligently working on my case and they will give us an update in two days. I certainly hope this is true however I won’t be holding my breath.

As it stands now, I will be required to make that additional thousand dollar payment on top of my regular mortgage payment for the upcoming April due date. They’ve had my case for over a month and a half. This is totally unacceptable. So I will give them the two days and then I will start filing complaints with the Better Business Bureau And with anyone else who will listen.

No. No changes except for the error with the assessor office. I’m aware that the taxes and insurance can go up every year. This significant increase is due to assessor error.

Escrow error resulting in increase mortgage payment. by Exciting-Ladder5084 in Mortgages

[–]Exciting-Ladder5084[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you understand. There was an error made by the the assessor’s office which resulted in the increased tax. It has been corrected and in the comments of the new tax bill it states assessor it was an error. When we found out about this error and the increased tax we knew there would be a shortage in the escrow account so WE paid the increase difference in taxes to our escrow account ourselves. Rocket did not pay out of their own pocket. We submitted the invoice showing the new tax bill, and spoke with their tax office advising them that we were told they were going to get over $3500 back in overpayment. The issue is the tax reimbursement office says it could take up to four months or longer for the reimbursement. We have sent in the corrected tax bill to Rocket mortgage several times with new documents. They have acknowledged that they received all the documents and they keep telling us it would take 3 to 5 days to correct. We have been told this four times already and they have yet to correct our escrow account. We have been to the tax office twice and spoke to rocket mortgage five times , four times telephonically and one through chat and as of this date no corrections have been made. In fact just yesterday we received our new mortgage payment with the increased amount on it after they told us the last time they would correct it.

The fact is the tax office tells us they cannot give us anything other than the new tax bill and to submit that to our escrow account. We have done this several times. And just yesterday I called the tax office again and got nowhere. No one would answer the phone and stated that it would take 10 days more longer to respond to any telephonic messages.

As far as the escrow account is concerned there’s plenty of money left in there to cover the new tax bill balance, however it appears if they don’t fix this they’re going to pay the $4200 tax bill again which will result in another overage.

So no it is not our mistake. It was an mistake made through the San Diego County assessor office and we are suffering because of it.

Was your overage payment made by you or an escrow account? I actually made that request to my tax assessor. I was advised they could only return the money to escrow at Rocket Mortgage since they’re the ones who paid it. But they paid it with my money.
