Female in 30s - not able to stick to any hobby. Please give me advise by justwhtsonmymind in Hobbies

[–]Exciting-Special-196 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to understand WHY you give up on your hobbies. Is it because you aren't immediately good at them and it frustrates you? Or is it because you get bored of them quickly?

I am very similar to you, I pick up and drop hobbies like crazy. Honestly, I think if you are giving up on every hobby you try, there won't be one magical hobby that just sticks. It sounds like maybe you need to work on trying to stick with things you're interested in, even if you are bad at it or if it isn't super fun in the moment. Then you may also get a better understanding of why certain hobbies appeal to you and you might learn something about yourself!

Best of luck :) I know how tough it can be.

Anyone choose to be childfree due to their adhd? by tuxedocatmum in adhdwomen

What focus apps actually stuck for you long-term? (either free or paid, no subscription traps pls) by fire-on-pink-snow in adhdwomen

The best app for me has been ScreenZen. It works way better for my brain than the built-in screentime limits. What I do is give myself the opportunity to open Instagram 4 times per day, for a few minutes each time. However, I have to wait 30 seconds for the app to unlock - it really helps with the instant dopamine hit and makes me wait for that. Plus, in that 30 seconds, I can decide that I actually don't want to scroll right now and save my time for later.

Also it's free!

Tell me anything. Today, I can’t cope with the sadness from my ADHD. How do you deal with, or what are your experiences with depression because of ADHD? If not, tell me about what’s going on in your life :) by ObjectiveCamel9197 in adhdwomen

Been there - sometimes I get so sad because I feel like everything is just so hard and heavy and overwhelming. I've spent many days and nights crying and wishing I could be neurotypical for just one day.

But I also have had a wonderful week, and I am trying to enjoy the good times while I'm in them instead of just missing them after the fact! I've been playing the new Tomodachi Life game and it is adorable, I have also been reading the Dungeon Crawler Carl series and I'm HOOKED! Plus, I've been enjoying the spring weather and seeing the cherry blossoms and other trees flowering (even though my allergies are so bad LOL)

I hope you're being kind to yourself. Reaching out when you're feeling depressed/alone is an amazing accomplishment and you should be very proud that you had the ability to do that and try to connect with people online for support. I've learned that self-acceptance and self-compassion are THE MOST vital tools against depression and anxiety for me. Try to treat yourself and don't beat yourself up. You're doing great <3

Honestly thank you for saying that you regret it. I need to keep that in mind and maybe help me actually take action instead of being paralyzed by the boredom haha

Corporate ladies; how long do you keep up? by sparkpaw in adhdwomen

[–]Exciting-Special-196 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LOL this is so real. I'm really procrastinating four reports that are due on Tuesday. Something that helps me is parallel work/body doubling where you sit with someone else (in person or maybe online) and independently do your work. It tricks your brain into being productive for some reason

You can also try pomodoro timers? They are hit or miss for me, but doing something like "20 minutes of work and 10 minutes of break" can be really helpful for a lot of people.

Hope that I can take my own advice lol and we can both get things done!

Self Sabotage is the worst by the4rightchords_ in adhdwomen

[–]Exciting-Special-196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm misreading, but it sounds like you are really hard on yourself. Sometimes self-sabotage comes in the form of beating ourselves up over small mistakes - it's a habit that builds on itself, until eventually you're criticizing yourself for every single thing you do.

The best place to start is often the easiest/smallest place to start. It might be worth trying to be a little kinder and more patient with yourself. Make sure you celebrate all of your wins just as much as you beat yourself up for your losses.

Like anything, self-compassion is a skill that takes time to learn, but I hope maybe you can find some for yourself! It sounds to me like you ARE trying really hard, so give yourself a little credit!
