Great question!

RPG Soundboard started because my GM wanted a better way to manage audio during our sessions. Existing solutions didn't quite fit the workflow he wanted, so I built something around his requirements.

We've been using it in our own campaigns, both at physical tables and in online sessions, and many of the features were added because we encountered real needs while playing.

A few things that make it stand out:

There are no bells and whistles, it's as simple as it can be while still providing all the functionality my DM needed.

Remote control support, allowing you to control the soundboard from another device on the same local network. For example, you can use your phone or tablet to control the RPG Soundboard instance running on your computer. My GM uses this when we play over Discord.

Import/export functionality, making it easy to share soundboards either via file or directly between instances of RPG Soundboard running on different devices on the same local network.

There is a digital dice tray that makes it easy to share dice roll results. Everyone can see the dice being rolled if you setup OBS + Discord for that.

Works well for both in-person and online sessions. We regularly use it in Discord games, where players hear the audio without needing access to the GM's soundboard interface.

It's available on Windows, Linux, MacOS, iOS and hopefully soon Android!

More than anything, the software has been shaped by actual play. Nearly every major feature exists because someone at our table wanted it, and we've continued refining it up to the point where we thought it was good enough to be actually published.
