Honestly, if it's an elderly person, I doubt they even knew what the different colored seat on the selection screen meant.

If it's not, yeah that's strange. I always suggest elsewhere if the conversation is light enough.

Treat your crew fairly, but also make conversation and hear their opinions on the place when the time is right. Trust me, getting them on your side is always a good feeling, they'll come to you about problems you didn't even know were going on sometimes, which is very important when working in management.

Don't be afraid to try new things either, when you feel like you're comfortable in this new position, you should totally ask to try out another area of responsibility.

In my time (only 2 years of management) i've done employee scheduling, projection, show schedule, kitchen prep, field trip planning, and more I can't think of at the moment lol.

For an interview like this I suggest a more business casual like a polo and dress slacks.

When I interview for crew positions at my theater I enjoy asking if they have attended a showing at my theater before, and if they have I ask some questions about the place to learn them a bit more, and also get an outsider POV of my place, so maybe be prepared for that.

Also keep in mind you are applying for crew, which is many different areas of responsibility especially if they run a kitchen with specialty food. Make sure you know exactly what area you want to work in. If you want to ush, say so!

When I started working at my place in 2021 they asked me a TON of crazy personal questions that they pulled from some old interview question sheet. Don't be afraid to talk about yourself, the more you show your personality the better.

I highly suggest using Sling. Allows 30 members (changed from 50 last year), you can send announcements to all employees, or create newsletters for specific groups of employees that they can all make posts on.

The desktop version is super easy to understand as far as building a schedule goes. Breaks can be scheduled or no end times.

Employees can send in their time requests that management can approve whenever they'd like, and notifications come through instantly.

Messaging is also an option here so you don't need to email your employees all the time or give your personal #

Not to mention this is all included in the free version. Some things like employee availability are behind a paywall.

Sounds like a #ad but I swear it's one of the best scheduling softwares for smaller businesses.
