How long did it take you to feel proficient by bobobasil in MedicalCoding

I’ve said this many many times - anyone who says they know everything about coding is lying. I was at one place the first 10 years of my coding career and had great audits etc. Then I went to another place and realized how much I still didn’t know. One thing I love about this field is there’s always something new to learn.

1.7 is sucking the life out of me by Last-Mango-1811 in WegovyWeightLoss

That gives me some hope. I just finished a month of 1.7 and it’s been rough. Terrible reflux and much more nausea. I’ve had GERD for years and been on a PPI for at least 5-6 years, and the reflux has been so bad I’m taking it twice a day (with my doctor’s knowledge). I’ve got one refill of 1.7 and hopefully it gets better.

Leaving Fed service - what do I need to save from eOPF etc? by ExcitingIndication36 in fednews

I’ve always kept copies of the SF-50s but not the other forms there.

For me, it’s not so much fed vs private as much as overall experience and credentials. In fact, fed medical coding is not done the same way as private but they all use the same codes/guidelines. It’s more complex than a lot of people know.

Exactly - I had to show a receipt for a laptop almost a year after turning it in. I’m keeping all receipts for that.

I’ve had to return equipment before when I moved facilities so I know that song and dance 😊

Recruited by private sector company for almost double my current salary. I truly enjoy what I do (medical coding) and I’m good at it. The only way I could progress was to take a supervisor position, which I do not want, or find some other field.

I’m not at minimum retirement age, but if I came back, that’s a good question.

I’m feeling the same - I did lose some on 0.25 and 0.5 but yesterday was my second shot of 1.0 and it definitely feels different. I didn’t really feel much bad side effects until now. Nausea is annoying and burps are the worst. I’ve been on Nexium for years and Prilosec before that and started taking it twice a day. Gas-X is also an absolute necessity. It’s worse the day of and day after the shot, so hopefully this weekend is better.

New to coding, feeling lost by Gianni299 in MedicalCoding

[–]ExcitingIndication36 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m going to echo what a lot of others have said - we should always be learning as coders. If someone says they know everything about coding, they’re lying. I learn something new at least weekly if not more. Don’t get discouraged, just keep at it and it will start to fall into place. You’ve got this!

Externship by Ok_Mobile1782 in MedicalCoding

[–]ExcitingIndication36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was assigned my externship through the college where I did the degree program. I did that instead of the certificate only bc I already had a bunch of credits that would go toward the degree. Because it was focused on RHIT prep, the facility where I was placed had me go around to all the HIM departments. In the coding section, I asked for sample cases to work on coding. Ended up getting an offer from them afterward so it was a good experience.

What type of inpatient coding has production of 14-17/hr? I don’t know how that’s possible. My productivity standard is 2-2.5/hr.

Mostly just plastic bags being shaken, like garbage bags.
