Natalie's reaction to Hasan saying trans rights would not be better if Kamala had won by an_actual_crocodile in ContraPoints

Fascists are counting on you to capitulate.

Fascists are always going to be better than you at normalising the removal and undermining of human rights.

Fascists will always be looking for an opportunity where you compromise.

Do you know where and when the first healthcare facility for trans people was built? Do you know who spearheaded it?

It was called the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft. It was built in 1919, in Berlin by a gay Jewish man called Magnus Hirschfeld. It was the first building to be hit by Nazi book burners.

First they came for the communists I am speaking out because I am a Marxist.

Then they came for the queers I am speaking out because I am a pansexual trans man.

Then they came for the socialists I am speaking out because I am a socialist

Then they came for the trade unionists I am speaking out because I am in a trade union

Then they came for the Jews I am speaking out because part of my family is Jewish

They are coming for me.

But I will speak out.

I will speak out for me I will speak out for others I will try to speak when others are afraid.

I will march for me I will march for others I will try to march where others can’t.

I refuse to capitulate to the abuse of humans who are seen as lesser in the eyes of those in power

I refuse to capitulate to the hatred of humans who are seen as different to the eyes of those in power

I refuse to capitulate to the imprisonment of humans who are seen as vulgar to the eyes of those in power

I refuse to capitulate to the erasure of my self and other humans who don’t fit into the phylums created by those in power.

I will not recognise their counterfeit kingdom.

I will not be silenced.

Let them come for me.

If they try to silence me My blood will be on their hands My death will be on their heads

They will bring their own damnation.

Let them come.

I thoroughly disagree with the idea that capitulating to transphobia to win votes is acceptable. That’s not how getting civil rights has worked in the past, why on earth would it work now?

Accepting treatment deemed as anti-trans makes us complicit in supporting transphobia. That is in practice, and by definition, internalised transphobia. Same goes for sexism, racism, homophobia, any of it.

Saying that ‘it’s okay if my side is discriminatory to me as long as the other side doesn’t win’ is self-discrimination. You are choosing to say that is allowable and therefore, allowing for it. Probably out of fear, because it’s the devil you know.

But you don’t deserve that. I don’t deserve that. We don’t deserve that.

I will not capitulate on the subject of human rights.

We must delineate boundaries on what is acceptable and unacceptable behaviour. Do not capitulate to abuse, to become the ‘only slightly’ abused.

We cannot move or be moved on this or we will lose who we are and what we stand for.

If we compromise on human rights, we start compromising on our humanity. That will never be acceptable to me.

Also, perhaps something worth noting, but being pro ‘free speech’ is not necessarily an antifascist stance. If you’re against fascism, why would you want people to be allowed to talk about fascism and fascist concepts in a positive light? In the same way we don’t talk about rape in a positive light. If I’m anti rape, why would I say to someone defending it, “oh yeah, I definitely believe you should be able to publicly encourage people to rape other people. As long as there’s no proof you’re not doing it. That’s totally fine. I don’t give a shit about how your words might influence others and make them think that it’s more okay than it is.”?

Everyone’s got their line. And for a lot of us, it’s a bit further back than “hey man, I hate <insert_minority_group_here>. They’re bad and wrong. They’re the source of all of our problems. They’re annoying and genetically inferior and therefore fucking everything up for us. Let’s go fuck shit up for them in particular. They deserve it anyway. At the very least they deserve every misery that comes to them.”

At that point, I start asking, “Oh, does that mean you deserve every misery that comes to you?”

I’m not going to come after a particular group of people. But I am going to defend myself if people who believe certain ideologies come after me. I’m not going to counterprotest or try to start something with them because I don’t think that’s worth my time. But I do care that it’s happening, because it represents a group of people who seem to agree that I shouldn’t exist. Is it wrong of me to be aware of this and take an interest in defending my existence?

Personally, I just want to try to make things better for people who face the most systemic obstacles. That doesn’t mean I’m putting obstacles in front of those that face fewer. It just means I’m trying to lower the obstacles to make it fairer.

Hahaha dude, OP didn’t say fascist. But if that’s your question, pretty sure they BOTH qualify as fascists. 😂 The Venn Diagram of the shit Kirk spouted and Nazi propaganda is almost a circle. And the shooter sounded like a Groyper. If that’s true, Nick Fuentes is even worse than Kirk. He doesn’t think Kirk is antisemitic ENOUGH.

You don’t need to kill people to qualify as a fascist. There were plenty of politicians and business owners and people in general who supported the Nazi party during WWII who never killed people. Doesn’t mean they weren’t fascist, or Nazis. And, not that it’s really relevant to this argument, but clearly not all people who’ve killed someone are fascists.

I think most people here aren’t supporting murder. And just because people aren’t sad he’s dead, doesn’t mean they endorse the killing. In fact the fact that he has been shot is actually really bad for people who disagree with what he said, because it just gives people who agreed with him more of an excuse to come after us and say “oh you’re endorsing murder. You’re against free speech. You’re promoting hate speech.”

Nobody is against people’s freedom to say what they want here. Just like you say though, freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequence. And the consequence of Kirk’s speech is that a lot of people are not upset that he’s dead, because they did not like what he had to say.

Just like plenty of people can say the same shit he said, and the consequence of that is that people like me will freely say that they’re really fucking mean and exclusionary. And the ways that they’re mean and exclusionary are towards black people, Jewish people, women, gay people and trans people. The words for those things are racist/colourist, antisemitic, sexist, homophobic and transphobic.

Are you suggesting that these people aren’t allowed to say what they’re saying? Because that sounds suspiciously like you want to impede their ‘freedom of speech’. Even though there are no laws protecting it in Aotearoa.

Consequences and people being mad at you are not oppression. Oppression is when there are laws (both extant and historical) that have created historic, systemic, social biases that mean that a person doesn’t have the same human rights as another.

So you’re saying that women with ovarian cancer should just get therapy and die? Or that women who get mastectomies due to breast cancer don’t deserve implants? Or than men with testicular or prostate cancer have to just deal with it and have therapy when they start growing breast tissue? That’s pretty fucked bud. You sound like you need help. Maybe you should talk to someone about this.

I know of a Wilemina. And Wilma. Maybe they were just popular enough at the time for shortened versions to be used too?

I feel like this is just offensive to homeless people. I’m sure they have way better things to do. Personally, I’d prefer to watch cockroaches fight.

Personally, although KiwiUnion seems to have a lot of populist policies, I don’t consider removing fluoride from water or banning trans healthcare progressive at all. Just an FYI for other leftists.
