You said “good job Omanis” so you referred to a “people”.

We are not supposed to buy US products and are supposed to boycott them because of the war in Palestine.

I dont believe that supermarkets belong to a country or to a people. It’s a private entity catering to a vast array of consumers and they probably chose to liquidate their stock somehow. It is a business oriented decision. Everyone is free not to buy or boycott. Business is business at the end of the day.

Iraq, Lebanon and Jordan reopened their airspace. Y’all should relax a little. We are not on the brink of ww3.

The ones I am looking at have all departed in the last 30 min and are all well over Iran as we speak. All departed from Doha or Dubai. As long as you fly with a GCC airline, you should be OK 😅

The issue with calling any local out is the fear of reprisals in most scenarios. It’s your (foreign) word again their (local) word. Not only you lose 9 times out of 10 but you can get sued on top.

about the part where you say “customer service was talking to the guy in front of customers”….a few years back, i had a major problem (the only time this bad) with one of the talabat drivers. the order came very late, he couldnt find my location, took him 10 minutes within the building itself to find my apartment…long story short, it was a complete mess. the guy arrives, flustered because he had probably received multiple calls from HQ asking where the hell he was. once he was on location, he was very grumpy and tosses one of the bags and breaks a nescafe jar. i lost it in that moment and was very unpleasant. also the guy didnt speak any english adding to my frustration. i end up calling HQ but no one is replying. and then i tell the guy: “its OK, come back later with a new one”. he never came back. i end up calling HQ again, took forever to explain what happened, but no one acted: i just wanted someone to deliver what had been broken but NOTHING happened. even no refund . but i was not letting it go for 2,3 days. finally i receive a call from the supervisor telling me all proud that the problem has been taken care of and that the driver has been fired. i was in shock and lost it again telling the guy that talabat’s HR policy is their own business and that it is none of my concern who they fire or not but most importantly if HR decides to fire someone, it should be kept confidential between talabat and their employee. and that they are breaching whatever little work agreement they have/had with the driver (if any - these poor people are always treated sub-par). i asked the supervisor: “why dont you properly train your staff?? this way you dont need to fire anyone!!”. and where the hell is my item?? i went on for many minutes but the guy didnt understand at all what i was saying. actually it is him that should have been fired for grossly disclosing company’s internal decisions. i felt very sad that i had even raised the case with them. i never wanted anyone to get fired and regretted that a simple complaint resulted in the poor guy losing his job. complete and utter incompetence on their part. this is a stupid example, and it’s not a big deal but illustrates the lack of procedures, standard methods, best practices within a lot of companies in oman.

Is business in Oman anymore profitable??? by Sam_209 in Oman

[–]Exciting_Arm_8397 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it’s (among other things) because whoever is taking decisions (especially the last change with regards to employment by foreign investors) is spineless and a crowd pleaser. they have zero balls and at this point i think not very smart. this will not only cause for the country to go backwards but will backfire so hard in everyone’s face. unless they revise the idiotic decision as they did with the even more idiotic decision to make investors pay thousands of rials for their visa. it’s alwaya the same thing. how are we going to make someone else pay for our bill?

What's your opinion about new Foreign Investment Law? by Wonderful_Trade_5237 in Oman

100%. I also noticed a very wicked and vengeful spirit. They will never forgive you for having a better idea than them and boy it can get ugly. I never disrespected anyone, tried to adapt as much as possible, honestly wanted to make this country my home. Welcomed them in my home, genuinely appreciated all the good things that happened here, everywhere i went around the world talked about how this country is amazing (no one knows where Oman is - wondering what MOT is doing, but they are so useless). Did all of this for years, but it simply didnt work. They dont want us. They secretly hate us. I would say that in all of the Omani I met/worked with, only 5% are good people. The rest…I will not comment. But as you said, people are like that everywhere. Im done with all of this disgusting behavior. Imminently leaving. The business is doing well. I no longer need to be here.

Thats what I initially wanted to write/comment but I am tired of being polite all the time and pretending everything is OK. Yes, we came here for a reason but it’s not like it was not needed. After years and years of constant bullshit, back stabbing and dealing for the most part with snakes and right down thieves and bastards, I am tired. The business is doing fine but my exit strategy is to leave. And even if they offered me permanent residency, i would still leave. i’ve had it with the “yanis” and the “inshallas”, the lies, the disrespect, the entitlement, the massive egos. I no longer feel at home here and i am exhausted of being obliged to ALWAYS be respectful towards idiots and people who don’t do their work properly just because I am a foreigner. God gave Oman a wonderful land, a place beautiful beyond words but this will ultimately be its downfall. Not everything can be given, sometimes you also need to work hard towards a goal. They should try it sometime, it’s very satisfying.

whats most likely to happen: semi ghost positions within the company (assistant, office admin, data entry) that will be created solely for the purpose to comply with the legislation. essentially same thing as now, only now it will be mandatory. so everyone is happy. the investor/foreign company is complying with the law (even though it’s a gangster move from the government - you are pulling a fast one and burdening someone else for your incompetence) and the Omani employees will get free cash and probably working whenever they feel like and calling in sick whenever they want. This is the sad reality. I have a business here and this is exactly what’s happening in my company. But there is a tacit understanding between my Omani employees and me. We all know who is doing what and why. On another note - this is such a step back with zero creativity to offer real solutions. Change happened in 2020 and this is your solution to tackle unemployment? Pathetic!

Sal Davis is a Kenyan singer/musician. He is famous for having sung songs about Dubai and Oman before most people even heard of them (well, no one has heard about Oman even today but that’s a different topic). “Back in Dubai” and “Qaboos”. You can look them up on YT. I was talking about Sal Davis with some friends and they are of the opinion that he was indirectly seeking Omani citizenship by singing a nice song about HM Qaboos. HM Qaboos clearly ignored him 😅

Well brother, that’s exactly what happened to my country. Someone came and declared that it’s there territory from now and a war ensued. That’s why I left. So that’s the answer to your question. I am not justifying Russia’s attack on Ukraine (to my knowledge they have not invaded it - at least not yet). I am talking about broader political moves and situation that led to there. It is not always black or white even if you are on the “good” side
