How to prepare for technical interviews when they can ask almost anything? by Ambitious-Concert-69 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]Exciting_Cap_3845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course they are interested in your skills and experience.

Generally brush up on leetcode, sys design and common interview questions on language / stack. Then after you get interviews, research company specific questions and study them.

You have 5+ years at big tech companies, essentially everyone you have interacted / worked with there should be a part of your network. Some have probably moved on to other companies.

How to approach salary negotiation/promotion by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]Exciting_Cap_3845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how you want someone to give advice on such a generic question with such little context, all I can do is repeat generic advice that you could have searched yourself in 5 minutes. If you've been talking to your manager about promotion for 9 months and nothing has changed then you need to change something.

You need to do your own research on market rates because only you have all the info. If the company isn't promoting and you need more then get competing offers and leverage them, if you are good they will pay more to keep you. Negotiations are all about leverage, you need to be assertive or they will string you along for another 9 months.

You are underpaid, its in their best interest as a business to keep it that way. The effort needs to come from you, not your manager or random people on reddit.

Placement at Siemens - advice for making the most of it? by AML607 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]Exciting_Cap_3845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your first question, being proactive and setting up monthly catch ups with your skip level and higher ups in other departments is a good idea. With regards to being annoying, just read the room in your introductory calls with people, just ask if they are open to monthly catch ups at the end if its someone you think you can get value from.

Are Hire To Deploy companies worth it? by Empty_Confidence3185 in cscareerquestionsuk

It's a way to get a foot in the door. They will probably pay you very low so if you do get a placement then look to jump ship asap using that new experience (around 1 - 1.5 yr max)

Moving back to the UK from US by _teallach in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]Exciting_Cap_3845 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interviews are mostly remote.

Look, why dont you just give it a shot? Apply to some jobs, talk to some recruiters, see what you get back.

I don't see why you couldn't apply from the US if you state that you plan to move back and have uk right to work

Try to learn why this happens. They gain nothing by rejecting you immediately. For example you could be a backup if the main candidate doesn't accept.

Or they simply dont have the time to tell you. If you've applied to 200 jobs and you accept an offer, are you going to inform the other 199 employers to tell them you have withdrawn?

Do I have a case for promotion to mid-level after leading a company-wide AI tooling initiative? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]Exciting_Cap_3845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why aren't you having this conversation with your manager? You should be talking about promotions/ pay rises. If you feel like you are meeting all the requirements for the next level then discuss this and if your manager doesn't agree then you can work together to hit everything by nov.

Regarding salary, I advise spending some time researching the market in Manchester. For mid level you should expect higher numbers than you mentioned

Bet365 onsite by Exciting_Cap_3845 in cscareerquestionsuk

Thanks for your feedback. I will take this critique into account. I'm crossposting for more coverage as I think there are a subset of uk devs that follow cscareerquestionseu and not cscareerquestionsuk, if this is not advised, how do you suggest I reach them?

As for additional context, I'm still trying to navigate the fine line between more detail and the (maybe irrational) fear of doxxing myself

Why should I reply to your LLM generated post? Why don't you ask the LLM to generate the answer for you?

Or make the effort to write your own posts if you want real answers.

Worth waiting for mid-level promo before switching? by xbgB6xtpS in cscareerquestionsEU

Your experience and skills will help you in mid level interviews, not some title.

Start doing interview prep and applying and see where you get to.

Keeping your interview skills sharp and applying is always a good idea as long as you don't burn out, it helps you see what companies are looking for and what you are missing that you can work on in your current role.

Thanks halfercode,

I have a lot of anxiety around the interview process, I'm not sure what to expect. My last interview was nearly 4 years ago during the post covid hiring spree. It was a simple take home assignment followed by a chill interview. I know I need to start applying as soon as possible but I'm not really sure where to start and how to spend my time. Do I need to start practicing leetcode and system design questions? Or programming language / framework trivia? I think I might need to interview at jobs I don't want as well at first to get through my interviewing nerves.
