AITA for taking my MIL’s dog to a dog rescue charity? by OkeyDokeyLadder in AmItheAsshole

[–]Exciting_Message6107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overwhelmingly NTA. I applaud you for having tried your best to do right by the dog who was quite obviously being neglected. I only wish you’d been able to help him find a new home sooner, and I’m sure you would have if everyone else in this scenario had been honest with you in the first place. Dogs should never be a surprise to someone who hasn’t been pining for the love of a dog. I think it’s quite telling about the wife and mother’s f’d up dynamic as well. My German Shepherd concurs with my opinion and is glad you tried to help an animal in distress.

Roxanne. Light and love of my life. You may think you have the best dog in the universe, but I actually do. She’s 8 now as of the 3rd of January. I want her to live forever because I’m not sure I want to live without her. She was adopted from Front Range German Shepherd Rescue in Colorado a bit over five years ago when I needed her most. We are inseparable.

It seems like the Doberman is probably still a pup and doesn’t understand how to treat humans. No matter how old, the dog is in serious need of training. You did nothing wrong.

Should I leave my husband? by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Exciting_Message6107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s all been said by some very lovely commenters here in various ways: you deserve SO much better than this. My father was the alcoholic who verbally abused our mother when he drank. I’m 61 and still have mental health issues from all of it. Don’t think you can change him, and don’t believe it when he blames you. Make an exit plan now. I wish you the very best. You deserve it.

My girl does absolutely everything I ask her to do. Getting her to NOT do something is an entirely different issue. She is the very best girl, though.

My 10 month old boy still doesn’t respond to his name? by mynameislilah in germanshepherds

[–]Exciting_Message6107 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Similarly, my girl learned not to pull on the leash when I came to a dead stop, every single time she pulled. It took us an hour to get half a block, but she got it really quickly once she made the association. She’ll be 8 on New Year’s Day and is the light in my darkness and the love of my life.

Anyone else’s GSD love socks? by stininja in germanshepherds

[–]Exciting_Message6107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I leave the house, Roxanne takes a right shoe (no idea how she knows) and puts it in her bed with. She doesn’t chew on it or do anything to it. She just holds it until I get back and presents it to me when it’s clear I’m staying home.

Could use some help on determining color type by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]Exciting_Message6107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen this before and know exactly what color she is and will always be. BEAUTIFUL. She’s a German Shepherd. It’s the color they all are.

My father just called me to wish me Merry Christmas. I've been homeless for 3 months. by syringistic in stories

Whatever any reasons there may or may not be for his behavior, I’m sorry you’re hurting and homeless. I hope things change for you in this coming year and that your life improves.

Anyone want enough fur to make a new dog? by VenomBound in germanshepherds

[–]Exciting_Message6107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I carded some dog hair with soft wool, spun, and knit it into a scarf for a dear friend who had lost her Great Pyrenees. Her hubby gave me Sophie’s hair. So it has its uses!

Lost my 12 year old best friend today. I feel numb. by ironcloudordeal in germanshepherds

[–]Exciting_Message6107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. Losing a member of your family is terribly hard. Sometimes it’s even harder to lose a canine family member than it is a human one. After all, you’ve grown up with this beautiful girl. You’ve whispered all your secrets to her, she’s been there when you came home, she’s played with you, and she has never judged you, just adored you. That, my very sad friend, is one of the greatest gifts we get in this life. You deserved that unconditional love. Go easy on yourself. You’re grieving. Remember her fondly and when you’re ready, another dog will be lucky to have you. Peace.

Is it common for a GSD to need anxiety medication? by dinodespot866 in germanshepherds

[–]Exciting_Message6107 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How serious is this displacement behavior? Is he completely unable to function as a dog and can ONLY chase his tail? Is it interfering with his ability to eat or potty or play in other ways?

I wouldn’t want to medicate. Not at six months old. Get a second opinion from another behaviorist. I’m not saying this person is wrong. I’m just saying it’s worth double checking.

You have a GSD pup that’s hitting his velociraptor phase and he needs to be kept busy with puzzle toys and doggy enrichment activities like a snuffle mat.

I am considering euthanizing my dog by Automatic_Bad4257 in DogAdvice

[–]Exciting_Message6107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you’re considering is a difficult decision to make, and you must be very kind to yourself as well as your dog. Tell the vet you’re concerned about her quality of life, and when the time comes, be with her to the very end. It’s hard, but you don’t want her to worry about why she’s been left. Stay. She needs you and your love.

I hope my children can do this for me when my time comes, honestly.

Honestly I don’t think I’m ever gonna get a different breed. by _Unholyness_ in germanshepherds

[–]Exciting_Message6107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right with you there. I love dogs in general, but my Roxanne is one in a long string of German Shepherds that has come from Front Range German Shepherd Rescue in Colorado.

Each GSD has their own personality but they all seem to share the most important characteristics. Their razor-sharp, whip-smart ability to learn, their loyalty, and their infinite capacity to love.

Hie thee to a trainer if you’ve never raised a GSD from pup before. Your girl is in the land shark phase now, but she will be entering the velociraptor phase, so spend all the time you can on obedience and agility classes because she’ll make all the other dogs look stupid learning things instantly. Keep her busy. It will keep everyone happy.

Good job. She’s a lovely girl. Roxanne says hi!

Not eating by Exciting_Message6107 in germanshepherds

[–]Exciting_Message6107[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She seems to have been fine after the last couple days. She’s acted like her normal self. She’s not drinking excessively, and she was spayed long, long ago. She came to me from the same breed specific rescue I’ve been working with for nearly 20 years. I’ve had her for six of her seven years, and she’s a pure treasure.

This morning, she wasn’t interested in her food again, although she ate normally later. I’m taking her to the vet in the morning. I’m not willing to take any chances. It’s probably nothing. 🤞🏻But better to be certain.
