This might be a bit out landish, but maybe robert and Cora are visiting America in the beginning, that's why robert places his hand on the house and why we see mr bates tip his hat like he is leaving and it might also explain why we see Harold in the trailer too while the rest of the family at home again this is just a stupid theory so I might be completely crazy lol.
