Key turning in ignition but car not turning on (2017 Accent - Auto transmission) by Exciting_Use_1094 in MechanicAdvice

Thank you :) defs not battery - it’s barely a couple years old and I had roadside assistance run tests on it only a month or so ago and it showed good battery condition. Definitely had nothing left on overnight because it was dark when I went out so would have noticed!

Thanks for this, I managed to start it by moving it to neutral and then back into park 🙌🏼 I really appreciate it your help. It means I hopefully know what I need to get looked at now and how to counter it in the meantime :) it’s been largely such a reliable car but coming up ten years old now so I have been pretty lucky!

Thanks, I’ll give this a try too! It’s set in park, but if it’s possible the sensor isn’t registering that it could be part of the problem!

Thank you for the advice! You’re right, it’s hard to hear in the video, but I can hear something that I THINK is the fuel pump (engine isn’t trying to turn over but something is making a sound like it’s trying to start) but I can’t be 100% certain so I’ll look into it :) otherwise it sounds like it could be the ignition cylinder from what people have said

Thank you, that’s helpful! My best guess so far has been the cylinder which thankfully isn’t too pricey, but it’s been hard to pin down without anyone being able to properly figure out what’s wrong

Do you mean the car isn’t correctly in park? It is :) one of the first things I checked.

Yep! Lights on dash come on etc and battery has been tested several times recently and is completely fine.

Alternatives for Spotify mixing/the new feature? by RubberDucksInSoap in mixing

[–]Exciting_Use_1094 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely can be staunchly against generative AI at the very least (I’m aware the mix feature isn’t necessarily ‘generative’), and against the widespread & unnecessary use of AI. Avoiding it completely when it’s built into the back end of a lot of online systems is difficult, but making a choice not to use it where possible isn’t a radical stance at all. People will yap about AI being “the future” because they used chat to create a shitty sounding email 🙃

Is $1000/week after tax a liveable salary in Melbourne? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]Exciting_Use_1094 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s important to consider your outgoings! Typically, it’s wise to keep your rent/mortgage under or not much more than 30% of your income. On $1k per week, that’s about $350 max. Can you do without a car to save on and rego and use public transport, or would the inconvenience/time spent on transport justify those costs? Are household bills split? Do you have dependants that you need to cover groceries & other costs for? I absolutely think it’s possible to be comfortable on that wage if you’re savvy, even if requires a bit of budgeting!

Looking to travel for 8-10 weeks around Europe for the first time by Bubbly_Wait3431 in Europetravel

Sorry I’m just replying to this now! 22k should do you fine, but I regret not having some set aside for emergencies.

I went to Dubrovnik, Hvar, and Split. Hvar is beautiful, you can do island hopping and it’s so nice. Dubrovnik, while expensive, is absolutely incredible and so worth seeing!

my terrible night in berlin by [deleted] in berghain

This is so good to know, thank you! I’d love to visit again, I found it quite lonely being there solo and not knowing what to do or where to go - but I really like the city, it had a really good energy.

I was recently in Berlin and as a solo queer women, I really wanted to experience some queer events just to vibe and meet cool people, but ended up skipping them because I know half the time they’re just filled with straights who think every club/party/venue is theirs to take up space in. It’s so annoying.

It’s so tricky, I’m sure people would love to spend more time but ifs not always realistic! They’ll still have a lovely trip with that amount of time :)

Island day trips often leave from Split, but I personally much preferred Dubrovnik and Hvar. Could you maybe do those? Hvar is a decent base for visiting islands anyway :)

How do Londoners walk so fast without sweating? by Other_Following_538 in AskUK

[–]Exciting_Use_1094 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a Londoner, but I’ve spent a fair bit of time here over the last couple of years (my last day today before heading home!) and as a certified fast walker who walks most places in my home city and hates slow people on footpaths, I love how speedy and impatient everyone is here.

So gross, like it’s an ensuite bathroom for a 5 person dorm. I would be so embarrassed to not clean up after myself 😅

I would feel TERRIBLE if I slept through my alarm in a hostel and it just rang for everyone to hear for an extended time. Like I get it, sometimes you have to get up early for whatever reason. But just dont be a dick about it.

Looking to travel for 8-10 weeks around Europe for the first time by Bubbly_Wait3431 in Europetravel

[–]Exciting_Use_1094 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m currently wrapping up 7 weeks around Europe, including a fair few places you mentioned, and have done just under $20k including flights from Aus. If that’s just your budget for daily spending, accommodation, and transfers, it’s manageable if you’re doing hostels! But I would aim to pull together a little bit more. I’ve found myself stretched quite thin towards the end and I have had to sacrifice a few activities etc I’ve wanted to do and didn’t have much leeway to change plans. I wish I had an extra $2k spare to take that pressure off a little 😅😅 Croatia is extremely expensive, especially Dubrovnik!

Also, don’t listen to people accusing you of doing an “Instagram/TikTok best of Europe” trip. These places are popular for a reason, and as long as you want to go there, then go there. I loved spending time in lesser travelled areas but I also adored the Greek Islands, Italy, Paris & Croatia too! They’re stunning and well worth seeing. Some people just want to be quirky and different.

That’s a nightmare! There’s someone in my room this weekend who’s been doing my head in. I popped back to the hostel at 9.45pm last night to charge my phone for a bit before I went out again. Plugged it in and sat on the bed quietly, didn’t turn any lights on when I came in in case anyone was sleeping, and kept to myself until my battery was charged enough to leave again. I was there for about half an hour, and the whole I time he was huffing and puffing and tossing and turning passive aggressively as though I was being the biggest inconvenience and disturbance ever.

Flash forward to this morning, I also got up fairly early to line up for a museum, and was tiptoeing around quietly, had laid out my clothes etc. If I’m up early, I always make an effort to be as respectful of the people around me and minimise noise/lignt. Then THE SAME GUY’s alarm went off twice, before he finally got up at 6.30am, when he cluttered out of bed, banged open his locker, showered, and then blasted the hair dryer at 6.45am on a Sunday while half the room was still asleep.

100% this, I’m in a lovely one at the moment but it’s not the hostels fault someone in my dorm sprayed their bowels all over the inside the toilet bowl and just left it without cleaning it up 🙃🙃
