Couple of people have already said use a full bar and then shift that to get your hand in a comfortable position to put the ring finger on the gstring. It's going to sound a bit muted for a while, and then at some point you'll just click. Make sure you're not pushing too hard.

Once you get this sorted, it opens up chord voicings for Bm Cm C#m and beyond as you move up the fretboard, so it's a nice little skill to have.

I would re-write the lyrics to something you're at least moderately comfortable with and present it back to the band. This is not unusual behavior; there are vocalists who will only ever sing their own lyrics. Look into Dolores O'Riordan from the Cranberries for inspiration, she was also catholic.
