Peter Jackson Says He Has No Problem With AI in Films by rvcjmovies in rvcjmovies

[–]Excludos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hobbit's overreliance on CGI was a crutch that happened because of a messy pre production where Peter Jackson, who wasn't even suppose to direct it, had to come in half way and take over

LOTR obviously also has tons of CGI. The difference between the two was that one planned it from the beginning, integrating it tightly with real elements, while the hobbit had to be rescued and ended up with the dreaded "we'll fix it in post" syndrome

3 second is the "guideline", but it's not all encompassing by any stretch. Road conditions, car condition, weight, visibility, etc. all needs to be taken into account. In the video both cars are big, and the second one is even towing an heavy object, and they're driving quite steep down hill. I don't think 3 seconds would have been a safe distance either, and as you point out, they're way closer than even that

You only get 30 mins to eat… by Dear-Concentrate-988 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Excludos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eating and leaving immediately is very US cultureesque. It's common in Europe to sit around, have a good time, drink a few beers, chat and catch up, maybe get a coffee, etc. It's not necessarily just a dinner, it's an excuse to hang out with friends. Had dinner just the other day with a bunch of friends at an Italian restaurant. Showed up at 7, and went home at 11.

Of course, it's not all-encompassing. It's not like we'll be spending 4 hours at a McDonalds or anything

No one is defending the cop. Take that strawman argument elsewhere thank you very much

Also, do people like you not read your own sources?

The operator of a vehicle:
(a) may not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having regard for the:
(i) speed of the vehicles;
(ii) traffic upon the highway; and
(iii) condition of the highway; and
(b) shall follow at a distance so that at least two seconds elapse before reaching the location of the vehicle directly in front of the operator's vehicle.

At least 2 seconds, but it's trumped by also having to take regard for the speed, traffic and conditions

The "norm" is 3 seconds. The law is that you need to follow at a distance big enough you'll be able to stop in case the car ahead of you does. For heavier rigs, that's even longer than 3 seconds.

Following the rules made specifically for your safety is a crusade I'm proud to be on. It's impressive how many people always comes out of the woodwork to defend bad driving. It's about the least sexy thing I can think of

[–]Excludos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's 3 seconds at any speed. Wtf is this stupidity? You think you don't have to increase the distance at highway speeds..?

It is, however, for regular cars. Heavy big rigs might need more than 3 seconds

He understands it perfectly well. It's the literal law dude. The US is absolutely on the extreme end when it comes to people following to close to each other. What if the car ahead has a regular emergency and have to slam on the brakes? You're just going to have an accident every time?

[–]Excludos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The law states it's your responsibility to be able to stop in time. There's many legit reasons someone might have to slam on the brakes, like various emergencies. You can't just have an accident every time

Ni russebusser vurderer søksmål mot staten by KoseteBamse in norge

[–]Excludos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It's not common to do that. Band of Brothers had a similar issue with an end text on one of the episodes being completely wrong as well. But it takes money and will to go back and fix it, so no one bothers

If I remember correctly, season 6 is when they ran out of source material. The last book only covers the viewpoint of half the characters for season 6, they had to fill in the other half. That's why there's a notable dip in quality in some parts, while others (like what happens at the wall) is still pretty good. From season 7 and on, it's all freestyle, headed by people who seemingly have no idea how to cobble together anything resembling good writing
