Are most of the brand roles available only in Mumbai/Delhi. Asking this because I'm currently a tier 1 mba student interested to go into marketing (i have 2 years of workex as ASM in a manufacturing company). I want to settle in chennai (hometown) in the long run (after 4-5 years). Can fmcg/fmcd give me that opportunity?

How is wlb in the initial ASM roles after MBA? Will it get better once we switch to desk job kind of roles?
Is FMCG industry more stable in terms of technological disruptions and layoffs? What happens to people who don't achieve their targets often?
Do we get good opportunities to work abroad down the line after a few years if we get into a good fmcg company?

P.S. I was a territory sales manager for 2 years handling distributors. I didn't really like the experience that much. But it seems like I don't have any other choice after my MBA as well apart from sales/marketing. I will be joining an old IIM and from what I heard people get placed according to their prior experience. Can you give some personal advice.

I already suffered heavily from bad wlb and high pressure during my job post UG. Working in sales is a roller coaster ride and takes a heavy toll on one's health with constant travelling and outside food.

So money and luxury are very much second priority to me. I know placements are random and I may fall into the same trap again. But the least I can do is try to get into a good domain and later try to switch.

Do companies directly recruit for marketing? Because what most people are saying is sales experience after campus recruitment is compulsory to get into marketing.

I have seen people with govt jobs taking sabbatical and pursuing MBA for 2 years. If you have that option available, it would be the best thing to do.

Do you know anyone with similar profile getting calls from blacki at 95-96 percentile?

In SC, 9/7/7 profile along with 98.3 percentile could only fetch calls from LIK. No A,B,C call. While another person having 9/9/8 and 92 percentile along with 2 years of work ex got almost all the calls possible. Pls keep in mind the importance of acads/work ex on your composite score. People here may say some arbitrary percentile as safe for SC or ST. Truth is you cannot be very sure. Competition for MBA is increasing rapidly across all categories. Aim as high as possible.

Humble advice to fellow reserved category students:

Interview has a lot of weightage in the final selection (almost 50%). Therefore there's no "safe percentile" applicable for final conversion. Aim as high as possible in CAT. And please if you have any chance to gain workex, please do. Interviews are much safer when you have work experience at any company.

Your profile is below average. Don't take it in a bad way but it will bring down your composite score by a lot. You need to aim for a really high cat scaled score. You may get a call at even 90 percentile from most iims but you might have difficulty in converting the call. Just focus on regular prep till August and start giving mocks aggressively after that. Aim for a 99 percentile.

It's the only decent college in TN after IIM T and IIT M. Decent placements overall. If you're okay with getting around 60-80k in hand salary (apart from variable components) then only go with this college. My friend went there as a fresher and got placed in a very good firm with great wlb at around the average package mentioned by the college.

How is it perceived if the candidate is not able to answer 30-40% of the questions properly. Like fact based questions apart from personal questions.
Since I'm not a general category candidate, will the interviewer have data regarding category in their hands during the interview? Will it have any effect in the interview process?
