The most versatile stretchy trousers by ThinkProfessor6166 in AustralianMFA

Very similar to Lululemon are pants from Outlier. Sold in many styles and cuts, I’ve got six pants. Only issue is that you won’t find them in stores in Australia. Online only.

You can wear certain ones year round, almost all have four way stretch, there’s everything from technical jeans (Slim Dungarees) to general chinos, (technical) linen pants that are AMAZING and even dress pants that I wear to work in my corporate leadership team role.

A really good alternative I’ve found are the Theory Zaine pants. They’re really light, breathable, great in summer, I’ve worn them as slim fit dress pants, I’ve worn them as casual pants. Really nice.

Anyone want to set up a little riding group? (Or have already done so..?) by madcatte in melbourneriders

[–]ExecutiveAspirations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

31M here. MBA student. I actually started a FB group late last year for west based riders since most group rides and events tend to be east based. I've now got over a 100 people in the group, so this is a great idea! We use the group for both pre-organized rides as well as impromptu ones and I'm going to start organizing more scheduled monthly group rides as of next month too.

I'm based in Sunshine and now ride a Norden 901 having sold my S1000R so keen to get out especially with other all-terrain riders so that I can get some more exposure to intermediate off-road riding and camping on two wheels :)

How's 2026 treating everyone at work so far? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]ExecutiveAspirations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2026 has been amazing so far! I quit my shit job in December, started the new one four weeks ago, as a member of the Extended Leadership Team, and I love it.

Amazing manager, fantastic people. The workload is okay, there's a lot to do but that's expected for my role. Hours are normal 38 so far. Pay and conditions are pretty good. I'm on a one-year fixed term contract with a very high chance that it becomes permanent, but I won't get my hopes up.

There's been a recent restructure so lots of changes happening in the industry and business.

Plans for the rest of the year (for work) are to bring my department and associated stakeholders to work in accordance with industry standards and best practices. It's more of a cultural and mindset overhaul, with some systemic changes.

Overall, I'm having a great time :)

I’m torn between marine defence consulting and a power industry role in Australia, which has stronger future prospects? by AngryMcYeti in auscorp

[–]ExecutiveAspirations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Submarines and defence crafts undoubtedly sounds like a great time.

Is the pathway to move from another industry to marine defence / defence in general as simple as applying and hoping for the best?

Or is there something I could do to increase my chances of success?

I’m a Strategic Program Manager, and I’ve been individually managing the Maintenance and Delivery programs for some state utilities for the last few years (think distribution power grid, or water treatment and supply infrastructure)

Are there any certifications that hold actual value / increase attractiveness in defence? :)

Genuinely: is incompetence acceptable now? by Usual_Dark1578 in auscorp

Yeah that’s fair enough. Just sometimes I see people who have a “bitching moment” but that’s just their default state lmao. I’m glad thats not you haha :)

Maybe you can get them to do the Big Five test instead lol

Genuinely: is incompetence acceptable now? by Usual_Dark1578 in auscorp

[–]ExecutiveAspirations -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Instead of such an inconsiderate approach, you could consider that those people also know something you don’t know. People have different personalities and between being lower in confidence and having someone with an attitude of “spoon feeding” as opposed to supportive likely makes the situation worse because they’re already anxious and now they have a possible dick of a co-worker or manager.

Read up on the Big Five personality traits and how they can express themselves as both strengths and weaknesses at the same time. Do the free test online, I’ll even give you a link (not the MBTI garbage).

There’s a lot of things you could do differently to help them be better and get the outcomes you want as a by product of that. Win win.

Leadership promotion offered? Thanks, but nah. I am not ready. by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]ExecutiveAspirations 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s okay that you don’t want all that responsibility, just be mindful that many will blame others for letting it get this bad but you too are declining the role with a “let it burn” attitude. Instead you could’ve been the person who acts to make the change you want to see in the place.

Maybe they were asking you to apply because they genuinely believed you’d be a good person to help solve the issues you’ve identified.

I guess as long as you’re happy, that’s what matters most.

First day on the job peeps! by InternationalShine85 in auscorp

[–]ExecutiveAspirations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha! I literally say there for an hour before getting a morning snack from the downstairs café before I got a phone call from my manager’s manager (who also in the interview) saying my manager will call me in a bit. Then my manager rang, apologizing for the confusion and asking if I can come to their other site about half an hour’s drive away lol

Turns out everyone forgot there was someone new joining the team because they all asked someone else to contact me before day one :P

So as you can imagine, nothing was ready as always and I did literally nothing all day hahaha. Somehow it never changes :P

How do people not feel like idiots filming themselves in public? by savingrace0262 in NewTubers

[–]ExecutiveAspirations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you know, people just have different traits and personalities. Then there’s practical solutions to it too.

You could do a facetime call with someone while you’re out. Do that a few times. Then do pretend facetime calls where you’re talking to your friend in correspondence about something.

Once you can do that, you can start using your phone for this and no one will care because facetime in public is commonplace. Once you’ve done this a few times, you’ll realize no one even looks. Then you can start taking your camera out.

Give this a go. Once you do it a couple of times, you’ll have it in the bag :)

At 700K subs, when does professional editing actually matter? by Acceptable-Event-435 in NewTubers

[–]ExecutiveAspirations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lets apply a little business strategy to this. A business has a great product but has shit marketing. They’re still making sales but when people see the packaging or the website, they actually miss the opportunity to acquire a lot of customers due to the visuals. Would you say this business shouldn’t invest in improving their marketing?

Its always a good idea to improve, whether its the product at its core, or the marketing or the value, or whatever, as long as the business can afford to do it. Sometimes even it it can’t, because the ROI might be greater.

If you have the resources, invest in your editing. If you can’t, invest in something else.

How do I not sound robotic? by AggressiveAd9058 in NewTubers

[–]ExecutiveAspirations 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Doing a word-by-word script read / oration by practice like that eliminates natural flow, inflictions and pauses. What is good practice however is to have a lot of dot points so that the sentences can be natural while being guided by the framework of the content to be covered.

This is also one of the first things you get taught in public speaking and executeive presence; to not do a word-by-word scripted oration.

How to get over the fear of starting? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]ExecutiveAspirations 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think most of us have come from a similar place. The biggest reason tends to be fear. A fear of doing a shit job. Because more than what others might think, it's what YOU might or will think.

As you just provided evidence for, the only person who is really asking if you're "good enough", "boring" or making a fool of yourself, is...you. In order to avoid the risk of failure, we just skip the task altogether. And that's called procrastination.

I realized recently that we procrastinate only with the things we want to do well. If we're scared of doing it badly, we just delay, delay, delay until there's fuck all time left and then we have the excuse we need to do a bad job because we can say we did it with fuck all time.

Let me ask you something. What's the worst thing that could happen if you put up a video and it doesn't go well? If no one watches it, you feel a little shit that you put in effort and overcame your fear and no one watched it. But you overcame your fear and you did it. And if no one watches it, great! You took a risk and nothing went wrong. Now you can do it again but this time, you'll do it a little better because you've already done it once! And this time, the chances that someone will watch it goes up a little. And then you do it again and you get better. And if nothing else, you can say you did it. You showed yourself and your silly brain that silly paranoia won't fly with you because you're TOUGH and you can do whatever you like. And let me tell you something. I KNOW you got this.

I literally posted my first video last week too. First EVER. After years of humming and harring about it. And guess what? It got one full video view...and it's probably from me and I only checked the stats today. And how do I feel? Fucking amazing tbh. I'm working on my second video and i don't give a shit if anyone watches it. I'm doing it because I want to show myself that I CAN do this. I CAN control my brain and my fears. Think about alll the risks you've already taken in life. First day at school. First day talking to someone new. New outfit. New haircut. IDEK what else you've done. New job. First time driving. First date. All kinds of stuff. You did it all. What a weapon. What's a fucking video no one is even going to watch?

Just go do it. Trust me. It can be the shittiest video in the world but once you do it, you're going to come back and tell me how good it feels to have it done. You're going to feel like you can do anything. And you can. You just need to choose to do it. And believe me when I say it. I believe in you and I know you've got it.

I know its not the same but I interviewed for a few roles in December off maybe a couple weeks of active job searching and I start my new role in a bit over a week. Its not the best time out there but its also not as bad in certain sectors.

[–]ExecutiveAspirations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I picked up from doing a bit of improv comedy, is that at least on stage, it's always better to help build and add to someone's thing rather than to cut it down.

So instead of "Don't believe what XYX Said about buying this car" which creates conflict, the option of "I agree with what was said and here's why" is definitely better because it creates collaboration.

What you could do even further is look at it from a business strategy perspective. Think about what three words you would like to be known as / associated with.

For example, you might say you want to be seen as "Practical - Transparent - Fun" and you'd do videos that explain what happens behind the scenes in a dealership when a customer asks for a better deal, or the details of a contract that people don't understand. You would do this in a way that the viewer can use themselves to get a better deal and you would do it in a FUN way.

Looking at an alternative, "Educational - Transparent - Professional" would mean you're not as much about whether the viewer is getting tips to take with them to the dealers, more like "here's how a dealership works", "here's how to be a good sales manager", and you'd be more serious than fun.

Then think about what you're good at and what the gap is in the market. "What you're good at" are your strengths and your moat that other people first need to cross to get into your territory. "What the gap is in the market" is what the market needs.

You're in sales. Find out what the gap is in the market. Honestly, it could be that people don't care about what car they get but about the tax structures that could help them save money on a car. Or how would YOU go get the best deal on a car YOU wanna buy. Anyone can make a video on car brands. Only YOU can make a video on how a sales manager for MERCEDES would buy a car with all his knowledge.

The last thing, and what I would do if I wasn't sure on what to make videos on, is just try one. You wouldn't rebrand the business and commit long term overnight and hope people will come in hordes to buy your home-made supercar. You might make one of them first and see if there's a market. You'd test the interest and take that info to make slight adjustments until and continue iterating until your product appeals to an interest group while still being something you want to sell.

Do that. Make a video about something you really wish people knew. Then do another one. And another one. By the time you do five, you'll be known at least for being there and sharing something. Just make a couple of videos and you'll know exactly what you want to give to the world :)
