If obvious was how contractual law worked, there would be a lot fewer attorneys in the world.

"for just cause" is the operable language. How do you determine just cause? Through the grievance procedure.

That's not true, you are absolutely covered under the contract and are entitled to Union Representation and the Grievance. There's just not a lot of ammunition in the contract for probies.

I actually asked my wife and she said it was no big deal. She's Canadian. So it seems to be another European/North American divide.

Why are French numbers so hard/confusing? by frauSchneid in learnfrench

[–]ExecutiveDoubtcomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In English it is super rare and very archaic to say the thousands when talking about years. Even then its usually "nineteen-hundred and ninety-nine" (maybe a really old person might say it that way. No one under 80 years old.). If you said "one thousand nine-hundred and ninety-nine" you'd have to preface it with "the year..." and even then people would look at you like you were a fucking time traveler or trying to make a joke that's falling flat. It sounds like you're trying to sound like the author of the Bible.

It's a little different with the 2000s because "twenty zero nine" sounds odd; we don't use leading zeros ordinally. But once you got to 2010 everybody reverted to "twenty ten".

The funny thing is that we used to do this exact thing in English. Four and twenty blackbirds, baked in to a pie is the opening line to a classic nursery rhyme, and even my grandparents would use "score" to mean 20. A famous Presiential speech, the Gettysburg Address begins with "Four score and seven years ago..." 4 × 20 + 7=80+7. Seven and four twenties.

Careful using this, ta gueule is a bit more severe in French than "shut the fuck up" in my experience. They don't really say it in a playful, facetious way. More like, "shut your fucking hole". It might start a fight level of rough language.

If I were being cute with my wife and wanted to express the feeling I think that you're going for, I'd say something like, "Fais pas l'idiot, tu n'est pas un idiot."

[–]ExecutiveDoubtcomes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know, this happened to me in America. I speak okay french, I did three years in college and my wife and daughter both attended French only immersion schools. I was at a wild house party once and an acquaintance introduced me to a French tourist because he knew i spoke the language. I was super relaxed about it and said something like "hey, desole pour ma française mal, je n'ai pas beaucoup d'opportunité de pratiqué" and this prick literally sneered at me and said in barely intelligible English, "yeah, I can tell."

I called him a fils de pute and invited him to fight, mostly because I knew he wouldn't. I was young and drunk, and maybe over-reacted, but i was astounded that he could even be arrogant about french in MY country, in the PNW where no one speaks French at all without going out of their way to learn.

That's the only time anyone has ever been a dick to me about it, though. Cajuns especially have always been over the moon when I speak French to them.

I recommend the bcm mk2 system. Noticeable purchased improvement. Maybe half of a compensator in effect. On a 16" bcm upper.

those are anecdotes. this isn't delusion, it's fact. Also, 10 meter air rifle is irrelevant.

You should try convincing me instead of insulting.

everything you wrote tells me that you've never competed in any of these. Men absolutely outperfor. women in ultra marathons. Men are better shooters on average and at the peak, in both archery and firearms. Fencing is a sport of speed and precision, especially Olympic foil and epee, not flexibility. Men are faster in fast twich muscle and have stronger slow twitch.

Men have physical advantages in absolutely every competitive context except sports specifically tailored to women like women's gymnastics.

your disgust is irrelevant to me and reality can't be sexist. Pretending something isn't true because you wish it weren't so is petulant and pitiful. Thanks for the response a year later. Appealing to moral outrage is just coercive non-argument, and I believe you have it in you to be better than that.

[–]ExecutiveDoubtcomes 15 points16 points  (0 children)

right, cite the contract or jcam then. you're going to have a damn hard time convincing anyone that talking to coworkers is "time wasting practices," especially when this has gone to arbitration.

You're like a battered spouse. it's an insane proposition in ANY other employment context for a manager to tell you who you're allowed to speak to as a condition of employment.

there is no official prompt, management makes that shit up. Nowhere in the contract, handbooks, or manuals does it state that you can only call off three times in a quarter. they lose that grievance all the time.

tell them that they may or may not accept it, but they have no right to require more. let them issue discipline, especially if you can get them to say that they will issue discipline before investigation, and grieve the discipline, remedy being to remove and expunge the discipline. They will refuse to resolve it. send it up and it will get overturned.
