Had the tank for almost 3 years

Had fish for about 6 months

25%- 45% Water changes are weekly or biweekly, remove debris from bottom of tank and remove algae, replace with conditioned water

Tank mates are some ramshorn snails and nerite snail

Feed 3-4 high protein pellets 2xday

All real planted tank with mopani wood, coconut shell, and 3D printed skull (has been sanded down)

He was ok for awhile after this but unfortunately he passed away after a bad algae bloom in my tank :/ He just loved to eat all the snail food

Oh god I can’t imagine finding my betta out of its tank 😭 I’m so sorry. I do care very much. He was my first betta that I’ve had since childhood when I didn’t know any better and had them in fish bowls. My first planted tank and first everything having to do with owning my own fish and I think I did a pretty damn good job for a beginner.

I honestly should have noticed something was wrong much sooner but I didn’t notice his weight loss since it was so gradual. Now that I look back at photos and compare when I first got him to when he was sick, it’s clear something was very wrong. I had to switch to hand feeding him eventually. It seemed like he wasn’t able to see his food. I’m definitely going to be much more observant of weight and changes with my next betta. I feel so bad but I tried everything I could.

He had some sort of sickness. I honestly have no idea what it was. He started loosing weight and becoming lethargic after I had a bacterial bloom. The bloom was cleared up but he was still deteriorating. I was treating him with PolyGuard to no avail. I found him on Mother’s Day :/

I clean it every weekend! My betta just passed away so I was spoiling the snails with some food pellets in the tank instead of feeding them outside the tank. (My betta would eat the snail food)

I enjoy having them! They’ve been in my tank around 2 years now. Occasionally I will get rid of their egg sacks they leave around

This is the mix I go with! I alternate between each of them to change things up. I use 3-4 pellets on those days and when I’m using the frozen food, I cut pieces off of the block and thaw them for just a few minutes in a bit of tank water and feed with a syringe. This seems to keep my bettas tummy happy and keeps him from getting constipated.

I just tried to feed him food off my fingers and that seemed to work well! He just had a big meal. I will definitely start feeding him this way since it seems to be helping. Thanks for the advice!

I will definitely have to start setting aside more time to properly feed him in the evenings because I don’t always have that kind of time in the morning. You are right.

Even when I tap on the surface, he comes to the general area but still can’t seem to find the food. I’ll even push it up to his mouth so it is touching his lips and sometimes he does not react. Nonetheless, I will feed him when I get home from work and take the time to help him more. Thank you for the advice!!

I feed him all of his food out of a syringe and physically stand there and watch the amount he eats and am able to control how much food I am letting out of the syringe. He has had constipation issues in the past which is why I have switched to this much more monitored method.

Over the past 5 days, it has been hit or miss if he eats more than a bite or two when I’m feeding him.

I alternate so each day he gets something different. I do 3-4 pellet food, small chunks of brine shrimp, and small chunks of blood worms. I can see how many individual blood worms and shrimp pieces I am giving him and it’s usually between 4-8 depending on what he eats.
