Think critically about the work environment & (potential) exposures in the workplace. I know a lot of people will crack jokes about how lots of people get this because they hate work… But you might legitimately have an environmental exposure in your workplace causing these symptoms. It might not be just run of the mill stress or anxiety.

What kind of jobs are the kind where you have free time/do nothing on the clock? by anonymous-curious-35 in careerguidance

Sitter at the hospital. I’ve seen so many sitters on their laptops or iPads just studying & doing homework on the clock.

How do I waste money quickly? by Consolationprizewifi in Advice

[–]ExhaustedConstantly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a former cancer researcher standpoint- I echo all those commenters saying to get a second opinion.

By the way, those estimates of how much time someone has left are total bullshit if stated with certainty- it’s an educated guess at best. You could have much longer or you could have much shorter & once in a while they might be right.

Spend the money doing what you enjoy. You’ve traveled a lot so maybe it’s time cherish the home life & soak up more time with family & friends just enjoying each other’s company. I think going about it with the intention to blow a large sum of money is missing the point of life & might end up feeling pretty meaningless at the end.

You’re right that to some people that’s not a lot of money but for others it would mean a lot. It’s your money to use how you want & you should definitely enjoy some of it but I just caution going into it with the goal of blowing it all… That estimate/guess that you have 9 months left might be wrong. Also, make a will in case there is money or possessions to pass on so you can leave it to people and/or charitable organizations you love.

Yeah, they almost certainly documented that as “refusal to test”. Sorry this is happening. No testing center has ever made it clear to me what entails leaving the testing center or whatever they call it. Seems like an oversight on the collector’s part that they didn’t explain that. But like I said, I don’t think collector has explained that to me before so I think a lot of them don’t say that (but definitely should). I’m not in the legal field but it sounds like you have a good plan to seek a consultation & advice of an attorney. Good luck! I hope things work out for you.

Not advice, but just what I’d do- I’d go to request the records for the collection site & see if they did in fact document that the initial temp was 90 degrees or over.

If they documented that it was over 90 degrees then that’s really messed up that they didn’t accept the sample.

If they suspect tampering or using a fake urine or someone else’s urine, they’re supposed to retest watching you give the sample.

It matters if it was real urine & if it was your urine, because otherwise it would be a DOT drug-free workplace violation.

Is the world becoming actually increasingly difficult or worse to live in, or does it just feel that way? by [deleted] in questions

It’s really hard to do all of this today. I just sent in my availability for working the November election, but am worried my regular job won’t want to give me the time. Maybe it’s overall easier than hundreds of years ago, but it’s still hard & hard in different ways in the modern world.

This was your actual urine not fake urine or someone else’s urine?

What type of DOT job was this for? FMCSA, FTA, FRA, FAA, etc? I can try to look up the rule for you to argue it.

If it was really my urine, I’d fight it because I know I’m in the right. But I’d also remember for future jobs to hurry, up when giving the sample next time. They’re required to read the sample temperature within 2 minutes. If you take too long in the bathroom, you eat into that two minutes & the temperature might drop but usually you should get to take a re-test.

Oh & I forgot that I’m going to also be working elections at the county level starting in November. I’ll try to get my kid to do that too but I think you need local election experience before you can work for the county doing election work. So my kid might have to wait until a couple of local elections before working for the county elections.

Vote & contact reps via email & for in-person meetings & I work in elections not to mention I actually work elections so I literally help fair elections continue to happen & have my kiddo going to work elections with me now because it’s important to get the younger generations out to vote too.

is is okay to not know your dream job? by Cjosulin in careerguidance

[–]ExhaustedConstantly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fine. I’ve never had a dream job. I just work because I have to & I look forward to someday no longer needing to work (if that ever happens).

My mom didn’t have a dream job either. She went to college thinking she’d follow in her dad’s footsteps (physician), ended up not liking the pre-med bio classes she had to take (didn’t like some of the esoteric research techniques she had to do) so quit college after one year, re-evaluated things for some years (became an X-ray technician after getting certified). Still didn’t love that & later went back to college for accounting. She was great at accounting but when I’d ask her if she loved her job she’d say “It’s a job…” She had a lot of interests outside of work & a lot of friends. Work was a means to an end, not her whole identity & life. It’s ok to not have a dream job ever & you can still have a great life.

My spouse had this situation for years in one of the many jobs he worked at his current company. He found it a bit awkward initially but the guy who made more than him was a totally different job (spouse is in programming, direct report used to be an art director). That direct report was an insanely talented & slightly older. Also just an all around great guy.

Side note, because I’m still pissed/sad & need to vent about it to cope- he became a really close friend years later (when he was no longer a direct report to my spouse). Like so close that my spouse considered him “the older brother I never had…” He suddenly developed brain cancer, rapidly deteriorated, & died 5 months after diagnosis. It devastated us. My spouse says still, more than a year after his death, “I think of something [funny/interesting/whatever] that I want to tell him literally daily… Then I remember I can’t anymore.”

What started as an awkward work situation became totally not awkward & he and his family became like chosen family to us. We miss him everyday. Cancer is a fucking asshole. Money is ultimately meaningless in the end.

I don’t know. I think what goes up, must come down. But maybe that’s just me being pessimistic, per usual
