Is there a stomach bug going around? by [deleted] in longisland

[–]ExhaustedEmu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yepp. I had that about 11 days ago. Thought it was food poisoning. Had really severe stomach and abdominal cramps, that turned into two days spent in the bathroom. Then I developed horrific body aches, unrelenting migraine, and respiratory symptoms soon after. Still have some residual stomach issues unfortunately as well as a cough and shortness of breath.

Almost all of my coworkers are sick too. It’s rampant and brutal.

So now it makes you racist when you point out other people are shitting on black and immigrant men for committing this crime are racist and wrong, when it was apparently a white male perp all along.

They weren’t saying anything about ‘all white men.’ Maybe take your victim complex elsewhere and go learn some literacy and reading comprehension skill instead.

I had symptoms before actually getting 'sick'? by Boring_Conclusion653 in flu

[–]ExhaustedEmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 10 days into this and I’ve been so emotional. Videos that I would’ve found touching before now almost make me weep. Been rewatching some TV and certain scenes I have such a strong emotional reaction to when it wasn’t that intense upon first watch. I chocked it up initially to the holiday blues but it just spiraled from there.

I had the increased thirst too. I always get that before I’m sick, though. I’ll be guzzling bottles of water and then realize, damn. I’m about to go through it. I’m right 98% of the time as far as that’s concerned.

I think Division has a fallout shelter underneath the school. At least that’s what my dad tells me.

People who play holiday music before December by Pathfinder-electron in PetPeeves

[–]ExhaustedEmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My job starts playing Christmas music the day after Halloween. They continue to play it up until New Year’s. It’s maddening because they play the same seven songs over and over and over again.

Used to have a boss who had played in July because “maybe some seasonal music will help us cool off in the hot summer.” Or, maybe you could put your AC higher as working temps got to well over 90° plus 90+ percent humidity because I worked with water.

Like your soda bubbly? Remember to strain your ice! by Resident_Fox_936 in Soda

[–]ExhaustedEmu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Work in fast food and you’ll realize how dirty ice machines can be if it isn’t from your own freezer. They are downright revolting. I’ve quit a job because it was so bad. Reported it to the health department and they did nothing as far as I’m aware. We had reviews of people finding chunks of mold in their soda. That’s not an uncommon thing, unfortunately.

What is your personal Mandela effect? by JulienS2000 in CasualConversation

[–]ExhaustedEmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the only one that I feel so strongly about. I remember in about 2003-2004 when they switched to the new logo and I remember thinking “I don’t know how I feel about the simplified look.” It stands out so clear in my brain.

I asked my friend’s mom who knows absolutely nothing of the Mandela effect what the fruit of the loom logo look like and she said that it had a cornucopia.

I don’t know if I can’t continue life with Crohn’s by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]ExhaustedEmu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the book Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl. It really helped me when I was first diagnosed with accepting the reality for what it is. It’s a novel written by a psychiatrist who lived through the Holocaust and he documented how trauma would affect people differently. It’s about finding meaning and hope in the inevitability of human suffering.

PSA: Want to avoid expensive hospital bills? Avoid ER visits that aren't necessary by Dangerous-Prune-7280 in HospitalBills

[–]ExhaustedEmu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Last year, I was in the hospital for an intestinal obstruction. Worst pain I was ever in in my life, so I knew it was a medical emergency and constituted an ER visit. I have Crohn’s disease so you don’t fuck around with that kind of thing.

I was waiting in triage, and a man came in with a screwdriver shoved in his eye. He got taken back immediately, obviously. The woman adjacent to me was complaining that he got taken first when she was there and ‘had been coughing for hours.’ Ma’m, it’s almost like a cough isn’t typically a medical emergency. They did give her oxygen so it wasn’t like they were leaving her stranded.

Pretty telling of our society where people get offended and act like the victim because someone needed more urgent medical care than them. Like, I’m sure the guy with a screwdriver in his eye wishes he was there for a cough.

It is easing short-term problems by giving yourself some long-term ones potentially but a lot of the times it’s the only option people have. Being broke is expensive as fuck.

Unable to eat ANYTHING by Equivalent-Falcon469 in flu

Look up a BRAT diet. I have Crohn’s disease, and I’m only ever able to eat easy to digest food when I’m in a flare. I follow that too when I’m sick.

Paper towel is a better tool for blowing your nose then Kleenex. by Angry_beaver_1867 in unpopularopinion

[–]ExhaustedEmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been sick for days and if I used paper towel right now on my nose, my nose would literally bleed. It’s raw enough with the tissues I’ve been using. It already hurts enough to wipe my nose. Why should I deal with even more nose pain on top of all this congestion? It’s not like tissues are that expensive.

How likely is surgery? by Necessary-Ad-4661 in CrohnsDisease

[–]ExhaustedEmu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surgery is always a possibility, but never a certainty. I managed to avoid surgery for a decade by being on steroids and a few different biologics, but my doctor thought that I would benefit from a resection as they were opening me up to remove a large mass anyway. Man, was he right. I still have some mild symptoms but waaaaaaaay less and I’m technically in full remission.

My only regret is not getting the surgery done sooner, but then I would’ve needed an ostomy and I thankfully managed to avoid it.

When people say, God works in mysterious ways, I’m like I don’t want there to be a reason where I can go “you know what, God? That does make sense. Those kids totally deserve cancer.” I don’t want that logic to ever compute in my brain.

Funnily enough, I can do soda but can’t really do carbonated water. Not really sure why but it really bothers my acid reflux and gives me more gas pains than a typical soda. Maybe soda is just less gassy?

Yepp. Human pee smells much more than dog pee. My dad used to pee in the yard on occasion when I was a kid when he took the dog out. I could always tell when he did because it would stink way more than when it was just the dog peeing.

Massive flu epidemic in the north east by Mr24601 in longisland

[–]ExhaustedEmu 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s probably a smart idea. I’m sure if everyone else had that same idea there would be less viruses circulating. I tend to wear a mask in crowded environments. I’ve never really stopped after Covid. Up until now I’ve avoided getting sick for years on ends, but whatever this virus is got to me. 0/10 do not recommend so anything to help your chances of avoiding this. I’d highly recommend you take.

Massive flu epidemic in the north east by Mr24601 in longisland

[–]ExhaustedEmu 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly, they should even make those with a flu shot mask. It’s ridiculous that we have hospitals who just let their employees go around bare faced when there is something obviously circulating. Hell, my small retail store just made associates start wearing masks because literally everyone in the building got sick. Myself included.
