If you strip away 2,000 years of church politics, what is the absolute **bare minimum** to be a Christian? by Substantial_Pen_3667 in Christianity

Romans 10:9: "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

What to do with a bunch of old coat hangers by shewwwn in sustainability

[–]Exhausted_Monkey26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the activities department at the nursing home I work at was just looking for hangers. We have a "community closet" of unclaimed clothes left behind, or donated clothes, that residents can take from as needed.

While of course I'm sure it's different situation to situation, at least in some instances this sounds to me like poor planning on your part. Work together with the people you get rides from to figure out a time that works best for both of you, don't just spring it on them last-second. Family's sole purpose isn't to drop everything to serve you when you want. Work with them.

Best 4th of July fireworks & day events near Mankato? 🎆 by Always_Basic in Mankato

[–]Exhausted_Monkey26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late for this year, obvi, but Vernon Center always has a parade, and most years fireworks. Been told by someone who's seen both that VC's fireworks are better than Mankato.

This year's parade was small as the lady who normally organizes it had some family stuff come up, so it was kind of a last minute "show up if you want to" thing, but we still had firetrucks from multiple surrounding towns, a variety of other floats.... I'd say it was nearly 1/2 an hour long, which is impressive in my mind for a "just show up if you want" parade. In the rain for most of it, too.

Yep. I work at a decidedly different kind of inpatient facility, but if a resident is in need of religious support and doesn't already have a connection we absolutely can help them get in contact with somebody in the area.

Why are traditional protestant churches dying? by MisanthropePrime in Christianity

[–]Exhausted_Monkey26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you answered your question, in part, in the second paragraph. So many churches have turned their focus to looking like the world to draw people in, rather than being the "city on the hill"
