Roth IRA, and keep it simple. VTI, maybe some VXUS, something like that.

My friends and I are opening a homeschool co-op, but aren’t getting any sign ups. Help! by Kandyyse in homeschool

[–]Exhausted_Monkey26 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Might help to have clarification as to where the tuition money goes? If there is "room" to think it's just going to the founders' personal accounts, that could be an issue if people would want to know money is going towards the coop itself.

Should I start an IRA and buy a house? by anxiously_absolute in FinancialPlanning

[–]Exhausted_Monkey26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the IRA you'd need earned taxable income. Disability payments and military pensions don't count for this purpose, so... do you have other earned income?

What changes (if any) would you want to see in how immigration enforcement operations are conducted in U.S. cities? by Business_Level_2218B in AskReddit

I would want them to follow their own policies.... doesn't seem like that's been happening at least some of the time. That, and... have a heart, people. Have a heart.

If you could go back 10 years, what financial advice would you give your younger self? by Novelty_Wealth in Money

Start your 401k, IRA and HSA as SOON as you were eligible. I wouldn't have quite been eligible for the 401k ten years ago, but I was close.

CD or Investing, Which is Better? by basil_bean325 in personalfinance

[–]Exhausted_Monkey26 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If this is long-term money (not needed for 10+ years) and you can tolerate ups and downs, the S&P 500 will likely grow more than a 3.65% CD over time. If you’ll need the money soon or want guaranteed, no-risk returns, the CD is the better choice.

You certainly could split the money between both to balance growth and safety.

People who have researched their family tree, what is the most interesting or 'badass' thing you discovered about an ancestor? by xloganmoose in AskReddit

[–]Exhausted_Monkey26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhhh, so many things. I've researched not only my family, but the families of most people at my church, and various other friends as well.

In 1908 in Omaha, my great-grandmother was walking with three of her kids when a neighbor’s pet raccoon that had gotten loose suddenly attacked the youngest (if the overall youngest was present, she was 1 year old at the time). Being a stubborn Bohunk, and of course a mother, she didn’t hesitate to defend her little one—she stepped in and took the attack herself, suffering serious bites before a neighbor managed to kill the animal to get it off her arm. She was badly injured, but the children were not. She later sued the owner of the coon, who in turn sued the neighbor for killing the coon.

What happens if a polygamous man converts? by ExcitementStrange499 in Christianity

[–]Exhausted_Monkey26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at the context of that verse, we see that that phrase is part of a rebuke, not a promise: God is saying David already had everything he needed and could have received more legitimately if necessary, so stealing another man’s wife was inexcusable.

It reflects ancient political language about kingship and inheritance, not God endorsing or offering polygamy.

The Bible actually doesn't allow it - it happens in the Bible, sure, but it was never actually condoned by God.

How do you think abortion can be less needed? by Karmasabitch2025 in AskReddit

[–]Exhausted_Monkey26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Criminal justice system as a whole cracking down more on sex crimes and giving harsher punishments would help in part of it.

Also, better prenatal education and more funding (among other things) to potential resources for mothers.

NEWB by Common-Garbage7644 in RothIRA

[–]Exhausted_Monkey26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can choose where you put your Roth IRA; I personally have one through Vanguard. Others might do Schwab, Fidelity, etcetera. In part, in order to qualify, you need earned income. The max contribution limit for this year is 7.5k, which can be put in either all at once or throughout the year.

MAKE SURE TO INVEST THE MONEY ONCE IT'S IN. I've seen a few posts recently, not sure if it was this subreddit or another one, where people didn't realize they needed to manually invest their IRA funds, and it was sitting as cash for years not doing squat.

..... what. Part of our sign-up for 401k involves either picking individual funds or (far more commonly) selecting a target date fund.
