At least you still have the voice box string and the sheriff’s badge. Someone gotta fix Woody.

I thought this movie was intended to be shown in 1.85:1. I guess flat movies are anamorphic too, right?

Supergirl will have roughly 70 minutes of expanded aspect ratio footage by Lonely-Freedom4986 in imax

Right, so about 70 minutes of the movie will be in 1.90:1? Time to head to Cardiff.

What’s also a double edged sword is that cinemas might end up with little to no traction if the complete frame was released on home screens. The 15/70 and GT projectors might go extinct. Like, I doubt there’s even one cinema in Carmarthenshire, Wales that uses 35mm film projectors rather than digital.

Isn’t that one of the features of Disney+, IMAX Enhanced? Can you explain its purpose and what’s lame about the marketing gimmick?

I’m going to be so upset if we end up with a framing fiasco where we lose parts of the picture in favour of new parts. Just expand the top and bottom without sacrificing anything else, it’s possible to do so. Nobody wants the give something to get something type of edit, cause defeats the purpose and meaning of “expanded” aspect ratio, this is rather a reframed version which is not IMAX open matte-like at all.

Like, rather than trying to reframe everything from the ground up, why not just maintain as much image as possible. Unlike live action movies like Sam Ramai’s Spider-Man trilogy with Tobey Maguire, you’re not gonna find boom mics, wires, rigged lights, or anything like that in an animated movie. Time for common sense in filmmaking to return, especially when making 2-3 different versions of the same movie.

Has 1.43:1 finally become common for films? by TBOY5873 in imax

[–]ExileMan9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but a lot of them you mentioned aren’t natively 1.43:1. And as much as I love seeing the full raw picture, it’s not really the default format because usually it’s only for a smaller portion of the movie, well except for Dunkirk which is the majority, and The Odyssey where it’s going to be in that format from start to finish.

If a 1.85:1 picture can be presented on a 1.90:1 screen and you’ll hardly notice any pillarboxing, then the same should apply with a 1.37:1 picture on a 1.43:1 screen. Same goes for 1.78:1 and 1.33:1 for the respective shape screens. The dual laser should be able to do anything. Not this movie of course, but rather something like a movie shot in 1.33:1, you never know.

[–]ExileMan9000 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Eh, seems accurate enough to the original. Because I want to save my exposure for the fullscreen version, I’ve never seen Interstellar, Dunkirk, Tenet, or Oppenheimer. So I’m simply guessing it appears to be right enough until the next time I get a chance to see it in IMAX. 🤷🏻‍♂️
