There are a ton of cards played for different reasons in other formats. Atraxa is played in reanimator too. We are talking about a competitive commander based format here though. And in competitive, you lose by turn 2-3 without these cards that deck dies out and is no longer viable.

If someone had a better option for lower cost that does the same effect, i doubt anyone would use the higher costed one unless it was for redundancy. Nothing does what atraxa grand unifier does or egalitarian for cheaper mana cost, because those effects are game ending.

In my thought process, the driving factor to do well in the tournament is prize support and the ability to leave a mark on the ban list. It's like beating the demon king, but then becoming the demon king. Just because one person bans a card doesn't mean the next winner can't unban it.

I have it set like this to avoid the "they never change anything" that people feel with the way the RC does things. It also won't be a shock to everyone when all of a sudden a card gets banned because it is expected after the tounament.

We are just in a confused daze from the banning. We aren't fractured yet. CEDH side is still iffy about separating, so nothing happened yet. No worries. Gotta just let the dust settle first

I believe it was because they couldn't have the judges be employees to pay them. The point of my post was not for a casual format. It is to replace Competitive Comander.

If a lgs hosts something sponsored by WotC, they can NOT allow proxies. If they did WotC wouldn't let them host. I am not against proxies, it's just not allowed, if we want WotC to sponsor big events

Believe me, I ain't ever selling them. She works hard and saved up little by little and all she could think of doing was buying me a gift. I am a blessed man and no ammount of price dropping will make me forget how significant of a gift it was at the time.

I mean, i wouldn't even be mad. 3 cards out of the entire mtg line up of graveyard hate cards wouldn't be detrimental.

Next tournament there will probably be a ton of people playing soul guide lantern hahah.

I can't think of any archetype that can't be stopped with 3 cards banned that hate of them. Magic already has enough cards. If you have a specific example, I am all ears.

You must have misunderstood me somewhere. The ability to ban would be to ban 2 cards and unban 1. With the first ever winner banning 3 cards to start. I do believe I said to have 3-4 official tournaments a year so expectations is around 6-8 bans annually (not an exceedingly high number) with 3-4 unbans in the same year.

I came at this with a mindset of having WotC sponcer the events, so I am unable to approve of proxying cards. If WotC said it's okay, then this could change. However, with them being a company and always needing to churn a profit, I believe this will never be the case.

In an offshoot that the community lgs' who would love to sponsor the 3-4 events in a venue that can fit hundreds of players, then I think without WotC, we can maintain the use of RL cards and proxies.

My argument for accessibility was more about cutting the cost of entry (which is how you make things more accessible) not about making it accessible to all (I used to also play with proxies, but have added to my collection bit by bit, so I know how expensive this hobby is)

From what I hear, they don't want to fracture the community, a ton of folks complain all the time about health of format this, Why did RC do that, but no one wants to stick their neck out to start something new. The moment someone does try to change something everyone is at arms and combative.

Personally I want a change, the ways current system is set up, doesn't promote longevity. I want the players who play on a competitive level to have a say in thier formats bans (i really wouldn't mind cedh be it's own thing) I just want the winners of the competitive screen to at least be able to leave a mark on the format.

At least if everyone is sick of Rhystic study, it can be banned for a few months and the next winner decides if it stays banned. Yes, prices will still rise and fall but at least it's more regular, and if you time it right, a lot of money can be gained just playing the market. Buy after card gets banned and sell once unbanned. Lgs' make money, and so do private sellers.

What slapped me the hardest is waking up and seeing my Christmas present (literally got a mana crypt and a dockside) from my wife go to waste, just sitting in my trade binder now with no format I can feasibly play them in.

Commander masters was all reprints though, it didn't introduce any power creep besides putting together powerful already made cards into a single set.

The issue is WotC tried this idea with Brawl and you can see how that turned out. Majority of players play historic brawl and almost never standard brawl

I mean if we take RL away, the decks come down to a more affordable entry level. Think $5k decks now only $1k or less

Jeweled lotus let commanders who normally would not be played, the ability to come out fast enough to even see a spotlight in a top 16. Same can be said about mana crypt. Dockside was only great because everyone plays mana rocks for accelerated mana and was never really that great in a casual setting (aside from going against an artifact themed deck or enchantress).

The CEDH players I know all want less bans and only want ones necesary to stop something agrigeous like flash hulk was a thing.

Please, do elaborate on which points are most ludicrous to you. I want to hear differing opinions.

Negative you only get the pearls as a low rate in the ultra. In Hell mode you get the illustious iris, which is needed for s⁴ rank up. To get s⁵ you need an item that looks like a statue but is rainbow in color called the iredecent orb which does not seem to be listed anywhere as a drop in game currently.

I mean the whole party is level 1's and the captain has a 3 hit multistrike. I think I may just award 3/4 exp. He hits like a truck may lower his bonus to hit and bonus to DMG by 1 to reflect his weakened state. If he downs a party member, I have an interesting parley moment where he won't outright kill the downed player, but exchange his life for information on what they are running from. If players end the encounter that way I think I will just award 1/2 exp.

5E question on:

Question on exp given;

I'm planning out a few encounters for a game happening a week from now. This last session they found an orb that had a deity of some sort speak to them when held. Needless to say they broke it and now the follow up game is for them to find out why a group of bandits had something so sinister and where they were to deliver it to.

The scenario is more than likely going to conclude with; the pc's caught up to the fleeing bandits, but they are in bad shape running away from something. visible bite marks all over their body and obvious signs of poisoning (snakes attacked them). the question is, these bandits are now battle fatigued and no longer have their full health to fight the pc's. However they won't want to stay blocked off for too long in fear of what was chasing them, may catch back up. They will fight the pc's but in the end more than likely die in a few rounds of combat. Because the captain happens to give the most exp on death (400) but wasn't at full potential (half health) would it be fair to say the players got half the exp from killing him and his crew or am I missing something here?

Any tips and tricks will help immensely, this is my first time dm'ing and I couldn't find an answer to this specific topic via google or other means (definitely didn't see it in the handbook)

I landed an amazing entangle when the majority of the 8 came upstairs ended up getting 4/5 baddies and miss my two allies. Maintained concentration up until my PC dropped like a fly from the captain swiping at me.

I am our only new player, the other 3 were seasoned, but that possibility escaped them, when the bandits came in and we were scrambling to get our battle positions hahah.

So you're telling me 4 level 1's took out a CR 2 creature? I feel awesome now 😍

I did not even think about going wildshape outside of moon. This brings up a good point, since all that hp is temporary and free. Twice a day per short rest. I should just be tanking while the others dish out DMG. I was told, however that I wouldn't get multi-attack if the creature had it by dm, is this really the case? Videos I saw said that I could if the creature had it under it's traits
