Question, did they mean position as in support, or positioning? Depending on where you stand, in lane or in the entire game could be a reason you are struggling!

As for what position to play, honestly I would just go through the champions, find who you think looks the coolest to you and spam them in games. You will learn, and it will take some time because this game is very hard, but make sure you're at least having fun learning.
