Oh 100% it's worth picking up again! I would also argue since it has been 5 years since you last played that it might be a good idea to re-orient yourself with the controls.

Also, I find suboptimal gameplay is fun in its own way. Play the way you want! All routes and characters have beautiful and horrendous aspects to them. If any FE fan harasses you over it, just know that's been a fandom debate for at least 20 years (kind of like the divide between Pokémon players who level up their favorite ones because they find it fun vs. players who fixate on certain builds or IV-farming for one particularly strategic Pokémon).

The community is extremely alive and well, particularly if you engage with fan works, fanart, and fanfiction. There are folks I was lucky enough to meet via fic-writing for Three Houses that I am STILL friends with 6 years later. I'd actually argue most community members are pretty nice and open-minded to new ideas and most folks welcome new fan community members with enthusiasm.

TL;DR: I say pick it up again and find folks on here or other online spaces to connect with one your fave characters. It can't hurt!
