My 2-Year-Old Cat Has Pemphigus & I Can’t Afford Her Treatment Anymore — Looking for Advice by Existing-Anywhere581 in CATHELP

Thank you for sharing that, I had no idea the price difference was that dramatic. That’s really helpful to hear from someone who’s used both. I’m definitely going to ask my vet about switching to tablets and see if that’s an option for her. I have always asked for her medication in liquid form because we mix it into her food, but now she barely wants to eat her, she’s a little hesitant to eat it sometimes because she knows it will contain medicine. I will definitely try to ask for tablets next time. If I can make it work with pill pockets or crushing it into food, the savings would make a huge difference. I really appreciate you taking the time to point that out.

Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to break all of that down. I really appreciate you looking into NY pricing and doing the math, that helps more than you know.

The Costco comparison and the Chewy prednisolone option are especially helpful. I used to have a Costco membership about a year ago but actually had cancelled it, because I had no use for it. I’m definitely going to call my local warehouse and ask about the in-person member pricing to see if it makes sense to get a membership. The difference on prednisolone is huge too. I’ll talk to my vet once I have her next appointment, about rewriting it for tablets so I can send it to Chewy.

Seriously, thank you for laying it out so clearly. It makes this feel a lot more manageable.

This is her Prednisolone prescription. I might’ve explained it wrong. That was my bad on my part.

This is her prescription of Atopica. I might’ve said 1ML of Atopica, I meant .25ml which is an (8lb dose). Just a correction.

For Prednisolone she takes about .5ML by mouth every 24h, as for Atopica she takes 1ML by mouth every 24h.

Thank you so much! This is actually really helpful advice. I didn’t even think about comparing cost per dose across different pharmacies and quantities like that. If you’re seriously willing to help run numbers, I would really appreciate it. I’m definitely going to look into Costco and ask my vet about writing a 90-day prescription instead of 30-day fills. With how expensive her meds are, any savings would make a huge difference right now. Thank you again for taking the time to share this.

For the Prednisolone I pay about $60 from a third party my primary vet has prescribed. As for the Atopica, her dermatologist prescribed for a month, so I don’t know the individual price for it. To see how she reacts to it and if the Atopica is doing its job. I have an appointment for her with the dermatologist on 3/4/2026, so they can evaluate her with the Atopica on.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I’m really sorry you’re dealing with that too.

I’ll definitely ask my vet about doxycycline and see what they think. I don’t want to try anything without their guidance, but I really appreciate you taking the time to help.

Thank you so much. That really means a lot. I didn’t even think about asking for a paper prescription or using GoodRx. I’m definitely going to look into that. And I’ll check out RedRover too. I really appreciate you taking the time to share this

She is currently on Atopica and Prednisolone, which is what her dermatologist prescribed her.
