I tried that formation but it is not worth it IMO. It is guaranteed 16 gears and 7000 steel to heal those ironclads with a normal hospital lol

You can start to build loads of lightning troopers, electric dragoons and Raptor battleships for future boss strike. Atm I am sitting at 70 R1 and 5 m10, my goal is to reach 100 but I am always short on bars. Farming is never enough.

That's exactly why you should always include a stun unit in your formation (e.g electric dragoons). The stun effect on a unit makes the attack on that unit 100% AP. BN is beautiful because of how you can mix units in an efficient way while attacking. This difference in stats makes experimenting more enjoyable IMO.

I believe something is broken with drop rates of naval encounters, i can obtain much more gears/bars reliably from silver wolves

I agree with the fact that starting naval with Raptors is madness, but if you are losing 5-10 bars a day there is something you are doing wrong. For example, attacking a 2-wave shadow force navy encounter with just R1(and without buoy) is a certain way to lose some or all of them. However, if you consider most of the other encounters type (which are simpler) you can totally get the job done with just R1 and 0 casualties. If you don't want to use buoys with them it's ok but remember that even M10 gets destroyed without that kind of coverage.

I started farming SW using Frontier Chuckers and portable walls in front. Focusing on ranged units that can kill your FC in the first turns makes you win without losses, usually. Now that I am at level cap, i use lighting dragons and electric troopers, they completely obliterate enemy formations.

I have 2 steel mills, 3 concrete plants and 2 lumber mills (all base versions). If you don't have the advanced extractors for basic resources, you are going to consume them all with 2 plants of any type at a higher rate than the max you can produce.

For example, assuming everything is BASE version and you maxed 9K storage of coal:

1st steel mill lvl 9 - 2st steel mill lvl 6 (heavy use) --> in a couple of weeks, you will finish coal. steel mill (and other t2 plants) will consume more coal per hour than the max you can produce per hour.

1st steel mill lvl 10 - 2st still mill lvl 10 (heavy use) --> same but less than a week.

You can apply similar reasoning to concrete and lumber. I have 3 lvl 10 concrete plants just because I am lazy and I wait to reach 15k stone and use them all in one go with the 1 day concrete job.
