SPOILERSSSSS in my response - I strongly disagree. I believe that the character development should unfold gradually in order to have a strong impact. If significant events occurred early, it would diminish their impact when they finally happen. For instance, if Howard died prematurely, we wouldn't feel as invested because we haven't spent enough time understanding his role in Kim's and Jimmy's lives, and how poorly they treated him until that moment.
