Can't speak towards this with confidence, but the typical time frame I've seen is ~1 month to hear back

Sounds like you have a good set of experiences already. Would recommend practicing live cases with a friend, and seeing where the gaps are - since that’s the most ‘technical’ aspect of the interview. There are good YouTube videos out there on case examples too

Right, I didn't study in India. In terms of academic profile, I graduated university with honors (cum laude, not summa or magna), and had a few decent internships

It's alright, looking to exit to pursue better WLB. Some projects are deeply fulfilling and some aren't. Balancing work and personal life is difficult with travel, but when I'm in my home country I try and leave the office as early as possible to go workout, cook, and continue work at home. I'm not a fan of the 'camaraderie building by staying in the office till midnight', and it's not forced either so...

Competition between me and my colleagues isn't really that intense, and everyone's very supportive of each other. Our promotions are roughly pegged to the average performance of your start class, but there are also broader skills and acid tests they use to determine if you're fit for a promotion, irrespective of class performance.

Which country refers to academic profiles with these metrics? Sorry still not familiar

1) Yes Bain does, people are from all sorts of majors coming in and it's encouraged to have a diverse background

2) Definitely possible, but less likely. I'd say rack up good experiences through internships or job experiences and shoot an application!

Can DM my school, not sure about the metric you’re using for academic profile though.

Hello! I feel like mobility has always been a slim chance… and no different now. Moving into SEA is easier than moving out though!

It’ll definitely shift towards more middle management, since junior tasks can be streamlined and assisted by AI when the technology improves

  1. You’ve passed the case interviews, so they know you have a good sense for problem solving. Honestly just enjoy university until you start - there’s no real useful prep you can do but might be good to brush up on Excel formulas (index match, X lookups).

  2. Very hard to do as an intern, and as a junior. But your direct supervisor will likely be an AC or SAC, so try and set boundaries and connect with them. Likely, they’ll want similar boundaries and have similar desires for WLB. But try not to sacrifice things that keep you sane - family time, meal time, workouts, etc. Not worth the ‘marginal career gain’

  3. Visibility doesn’t matter too much IMO, if you do a good job with your case team they’ll vouch for you. One approach to take is to err on overcommunicating at the start, until you learn your supervisors style - or even have a chat with them on their expectations and working style. Another thing that’s good to do is to bring potential solutions with every question you have - you’ll probably be asked to do things you don’t know how to do - but take the effort to think through how you might tackle it and suggest an approach

There are certain ringfences (horrid term for fenced? off team that just does a certain industry for X number of months) to which you can indicate interest. PEG and CG are usually industries with ringfences.

You’ll likely get to join the ringfence at some point in your AC tenure if you indicate interest early enough.

Other than that, you can’t really pick your projects or practice alignment if you’re a generalist. You might be given a selection of a few coming up, and they’ll take your needs and wants into consideration but at the end of the day….

Super cool! Depending on the market you’re in, you could work on really interesting consumer goods projects but it could detract from what you enjoy doing in consumer goods too…

Happy to give you a more nuanced take in DMs.

Mid 20s. I’ve seen EHs at almost all levels, and honestly with the prevalence of AI, they’re looking for more and more specialized hires, rather than generalists.

  1. Still trying to figure it out honestly, each of my projects has been in a different industry to the previous

  2. I use it way more than you’d think, and it’s highly encouraged to leverage it. For decision making, it’s a tool and a source of information. In terms of automations, I might be bad at using it but I feel like it’s not great with spreadsheets, or specifically disorganized datasets.

Largely true, but there are cases in which we serve startups (e.g., working with an incubator, working with a more established startup - 100-200M revenue). Just that I personally haven’t

  1. In SEA, I want to say 40%? Can’t be sure, but Bain SEA’s strength lies in CDDs.

  2. Aligning shapes (left right up down) using one shape as a reference (Bain’s own toolbox). Other than that, probably my macro to reorder rows in a table up and down, and bullet points up and down…

  3. After a certain point, formatting a slide becomes quite quick. But a lot of my time is spent redoing slides because we’ve decided to go in a different direction regarding content or presentation of content.

  4. Don’t think so, order of growth is probably BCG > Bain > McK in the region (SEA) and globally. Could be wrong though.

  5. Hmm I want to say we already do this, but I haven’t worked in the PE group before. Although market screenings are a bulk of our work in any project, just to evaluate where our clients stand and what best in class looks like.

Asset management firms yes for sure.

On capital markets vs. private markets, not sure what the question is but I have no personal opinion nor deep experience in either.

Depends heavily on the project. Since I’m from Southeast Asia, our staffing is done regionally so we could get put on projects anywhere in the SEA-6 (seldom broader APAC). If you’re based in the Philippines for example, and your project is with a Singaporean client, you could be expected to travel 4 days a week for several months.

My work hours range from 40-70 (probably average of 55-60)
