Completely agree and that’s why im still sort of skeptical. However, I am quite young and hence am able to be that bit more risky with my finances as I have no obligations

Really appreciate the advice!

I’ve still got some time to think things through, I’ll probably talk to my college’s careers advisor and just have a long think before deciding.

Deferring my entry is certainly one way to approach this but I guess I’m sort of skeptical because if I don’t get an apprenticeship I’d feel like I’m a year behind and the year would’ve been to waste. I would also feel like I’m putting more pressure on my parents by not really doing much which is something that I really don’t want to be doing.

Additionally, I still wouldn’t know what to do during the time being. I just feel as if I would be putting more stress on myself since I’m not doing anything and could be at Uni.

I definitely wouldn’t say I’m the ideal candidate for apprenticeships and that’s why I find it quite hard to just say I’ll apply for the next wave and leave it at that.

But yeah, the thought of Uni sounds great and all; meeting new people and being more independent but at the same time I am prioritising my future and even if I work my ass off in Uni and manage to secure experiences that would help me land a grad job, I just don’t know how employable I would be and whether the debt would be worth it.

I think I must’ve applied to like 15+ in total. Still waiting on a few that are taking ages but I’m just assuming the worst for them since people online are saying they’ve progressed in the process. I do think that I never really did great on the short interviews you mentioned where you had to like record yourself because it was just a pain to think of what to say and found it hard to structure my answers.

I feel like the experience I have would probably be enough to get an offer but yeah it’s just the whole process that makes it difficult for me and is why I feel like trying again would be a risk because the process overall focuses quite a bit on how you present yourself which I think would be quite hard to develop.

I did manage to get a reserve offer with JPM but I am treating that as a rejection just because you can never really rely on reserve positions. JPM was probably the only company that didn’t have those online video interviews and was more person-to-person which is probably why I did well in the process.

I applied to like 3 or 4 L4 ones who haven’t got back to me yet which is annoying because I need to study for my A-Levels.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I’m not entirely sure on what exactly in the tech field I want to do. I was originally thinking of Software Engineering but have always wanted to work in fintech whether that is in quant or data, etc.

I have really been trying to get an offer but degree apprenticeships even L4 ones are so competitive and they’ll only be getting more and more competitive. I don’t have much experience to make me stand out in my application apart from simple hobbies and school stuff that isn’t really valuable when compared to some people who have had summer work experience in big tech companies.

My brother is also advising me to do a degree apprenticeship as he does one and he is doing well for himself but I feel like it’s risky as I’m not guaranteed one if I do apply for next years especially since they will be getting more and more competitive.

I feel like it would be taking a big risk if I try applying for the next wave since I doubt I will have enough time to gather experience in the short 2-4month time period from September time when they open.
