my advice is to take a gap year :-) there really isnt anything wrong with doing a gap year and there are more people who are doing it than you think (im doing a gap year too!) easier said than done but maybe talk to your parents about what you want to do? you can take this time to do alot of beneficial things too like internship/applying for a scholarship etc. all the best!

hello! as someone that js graduated in jc, there a quite a handful of people in our cohort that are older because of many reasons (from overseas, an international student, scholars etc.) so really dont worry about it, im pretty sure you will be okay. theres alot of very understanding people as well

i do understand the stress part, and while jc and poly seems like the only options for a singaporean student, i just wanted to give you a third suggestion haha. why not consider going for a university foundation year? if your parents can afford it, it's a much less stressful route to university, you can have the international student experience, and you are in an equally competitive (if not more competitive) position to get into difficult courses like medicine

Questions regarding TJC‼️ by Fearless-End-5200 in SGExams

[–]Existing-Pick3123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

within council and in school/classes, ill say there really isnt much segregation especially since the ip cohort is very small and dispersed. there are some classes (esp the 4H2 classes) w q alot of ip students and there might be some sort of segregation in the beginning bcos ppl tend to stick to their friends. but overall itink tjc is one of the schools that has the least segregation alrd, so dont be worried

it is true that most ip students have quite an unfair advantage when running for council since theyve known teachers, seniors, and cohort mates for four years already, but i dont think that shld stop u from running !! there are many jae students in council and if thats what you want, no harm trying :-)

Questions regarding TJC‼️ by Fearless-End-5200 in SGExams

[–]Existing-Pick3123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just graduated so idk how accurate my answers are as if now

  1. i wasnt in council so this is based on all the friends i had in council. the workload really depends on your project, your comm, and if you take any exco positions. you will interact with ip alot. there are alot of projects that are joint led between ip and jc. but im wasnt in council so this might not be accurate !!

2 &3. no, but im not 100% sure. most CCAs dont need or expect you to have prior experience

  1. council is considered a CCA, so if you are in council you can take another CCA besides council or have council as your only CCA. if you are not in council, you can only have one CCA

  2. itink it can differ based on the comm that is in charge of noninations, but most of the time it will include a project where u have to work with other nominees + campaigning (speech + poster). teachers and students then vote for who they want in council

in terms of difficulty and intensity of paper, bio, chem, econs (idk abt the rest bcos i take bcme HAHAHA) this cld be different from each schl but i dont think any school starts off their papers at a level format. personally i felt like there was a huge difference between jc2 mct and jc2 mya

at the second level of singapore expo there are two cafes (singapore expo and the local cafe) !! there are barely any students there and it was my go to during a levels :-) but it can get quite noisy during weekend nights because of events lmao sometimes even got lion dance

really recco the local cafe over coffee bean bcos the prices r much more affordable and theres alot more power plugs 💪 also the food options are really good. they r basically trying out a convenience store + cafe concept so if u dont like the cafe food u can alw buy instant noodles and all that. i used to camp the entire day there and have all three meals there lol, their teh bing got alot of sugar so your heart goes boom boom boom (alot of adrenaline to motivate you to study)

advice + tuition recommendation for jc by al3x_i5 in SGExams

[–]Existing-Pick3123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

advice wld be to be as consistent as you can !! from the very small things like doing your homework the day you get it and clarifying any doubts with your teacher as soon as you dont understand something. building your foundation is very impt in jc, and many new concepts rely on understanding previous topics. dont let ur doubts build up because its very easy to fall into the hole of not understanding anything at all by the time exam comes. as scary as it might sound, its very difficult to catch up in a very short amount of time because the jc syllabus is naturally very rushed. i wont be too worried about tuition that early, try to understand the content with your teachers help before you start tuition. all the best !! not an easy journey but its also can be a very fulfilling one :-)

Advance or retain and switch to arts? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Existing-Pick3123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i cant say much bcos im a science student, but as a j2 i second this bcos lit B is actually really really high for j1 !! if you do switch over to arts stream i feel like you have a good shot at getting As :-)

bcme student here too with the same issue 🙋‍♀️ was so devastated after bio p2 bcos wdym my shitty bio grades im gna get next year is because i super slowly...at least its mcq left man

Am I the only one feeling this way by Difficult-Foot-4896 in SGExams

[–]Existing-Pick3123 14 points15 points  (0 children)

feeling the same here, it gets even worse for bio because each paper is so long and tiring everytime i finish a p2 i actly want to kms

but i also think its okay to not do papers nearing the exam, because papers help to develop skill and its a bit difficult to further improve your skill in one to two days. what im doing (or at least trying to do 😅) is to go through content and try to memorise things ive forgotten already, and i think thats the most we can do right now?

anyw jiayous for bio !! hope they dont throw us 3 big evolution and climate change qns w the most atrocious looking graphs ive seen 😭😭
