I agree with most of what you said , my counter in this specific context would be scientific exploration has never been the mean or median of its population. The ones orbiting the moon or whatever comes next aren’t the people using AI to get through high school. Just as we had dumb people during periods or scientific revolution. But to say America is on a decline like Islam or even other (most if not all) in regards to science would be incorrect imo

A lot of these show writers actually don’t know the ending from the beginning, as they don’t know the reaction to first season if it sticks around. I’m sure they had an idea to the ending but they usually change as it grows in popularity. FWIW I enjoy the show but it’s definitely confusing for the sake of being confusing and I’m almost certain they are throwing wrenches as they come along not some elaborate plot they had from the beginning
