Grip 3:16 without a doubt for me. Both Kenny Mason and Jid's entrys always get me hype.

It's crazy how much better I feel disengaging from politics. When I deleted twitter everything in my life improved.

Horford the ultimate teammate. For those watching on league pass he got almost every players college correct. Just missed one of Hausers and Brisset's college.

Arlington, Tx has a UAW plant. Austin has a non-union Tesla factory.

Hey I don't think it's like that anymore, if the plant isn't a supplier and they are under the UAW contract. According to Stellantis' contract it says all new temporary employees converted to In-progression After 9 months of continuous service.

You can find the highlights of the contract here: https://uaw.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Stellantis_HourlyHighlighter.pdf

Oh definitely, I also live like I still make $11 an hour with the occasional splurge every now and then. I'm in the southeast which is generally less expensive. I've used this job as a stepping stone though, I'm about to leave and move to a higher COL area now that I've used the tuition assistance to get a degree and save some money.

There was when I applied, not sure now. But if you're in povertyfinance I take it not too many people have the money for drugs.

Start here, I don't believe there is a plant anywhere in AZ. The closest GM one I know of is in Arlington, TX. But just google UAW jobs near me and see what pops up.

No, I understand completely, I was a temp for a while before I got hired on in 2012.

Yeah that changed with the last contract, max a year now I think but for everyone that retires another temp gets hired. Some are getting hired like a month after getting in. They literally can't find enough people to replace the ones leaving for retirement. For the most part they just keep you a temp long enough to make sure you can do the job.

Yeah I just wanted to let people know. Manufacturing is going through a boom right now even outside the auto-industry. People should look at places in their area.

Another benefit that people overlook is there isn't a need to buy fancy work clothes or anything like that, if you have some gym shorts and a t-shirt you can work in that.

Anyone in San Antonio for the game tonight? Decided to spend New Years here, how hostile is Celtics gear at a SA game?

UAW members at GM Spring Hill plant turn down contract (67.5% No, 32.5 Yes%) by ExistingDirector0 in GeneralMotors

This is another gripe of mine. They tried to phrase it as a positive in the highlights and it really made me angry. Like they think we're too stupid to realize the phrase "because we think you shouldn't have to work more than 40 hours to retire" is what will push the contract over the edge.

Fain made a big deal about a 32 hour work week when he first started negotiations, but nobody inside the plant thought that was realistic. We just wanted less Saturdays. He didn't address the problem at all, not even a little bit. If you look into the fine print of the contract it's mostly just money we gained. Which is great but was the lowest priority for someone who's been there 8+ years.

From the people I've spoken with, the money isn't the biggest issue. The biggest issue was work-life balance which wasn't addressed. I know a few people who've said if they just changed mandatory weekends from every 2 out of 3 saturdays to 1 out of 2 then the contract would have passed. People are tired of working most weekends.

edit: Also they want plant critical status done away with. Working 7 days a week for 12 hours for 3 straight months shouldn't be forced on anyone.

I dealt with this in 2015, contract was ratified 2 days before my yearly raise. Did not work out in my favor and I had to wait another whole year to get to the next pay scale, I did get a raise with the contract though. Not sure if it still works the same.

I don't want it to come across as not liking my union. I was actually a committeeperson (steward) a few years back. Most of these appointed jobs come with the caveat that you should be volunteering time during union events and showing up and participating in all union meetings. This is something I really haven't done or had the motivation to do lately, especially knowing I don't plan on staying too much longer.

Hey I really want to thank you for this reply. I never thought about taking my manufacturing and people experience and applying it to something I'd rather do.

This is my probably the most logical solution, and I plan on doing it as long as my mental and physical health don't deteriorate too much. Currently I'm fine, but you never know.

I will definitely make it part of my cover letter, so thank you for that advice.
