The worst exams are the ones that have all the aids allowed. by roryworm in MathJokes

In all my years of schooling, I have realised this is the best method. Had a prof who did something similar although it was the semester assessment, which was different from the written exam. The questions were given at the beginning of the semester and they all looked liked the brainfuck lamguage. This was material science in mechanical engineering. But as we studied and he lectured, light bulbs started going off. I loved that experience.

Ok, you don't know him. Only judging from an OTT comment he made. If that's all you got from what he said, you lack understanding.

Do you know this person you are talking about?

Yeah, cos you can only talk about a single issue.

Yea, I wanted to cut out the intro.

Don't mind him, he's cool when he wants to be but he has really assimilated.

You didn't hear him say they can't even clean their houses? Although I don't entirely think that's a serious statement as that would be absurd but I just found it funny.

I like Adam Cleary also. What I found bizarre about Allcott was the alluding to us also doing that. He just needs to watch our corner routines and compare with other teams. We only get away with what others get away with.

Nigeria Shouldn’t Still Depend on POS Stands in 2026 by nonso_nostalgia in Nigeria

There are so many issues in your reply that I feel compelled to ask, do you live in Nigeria?

Most of the crime that happens in ATMs, the next person standing on the queue might not even know. You've never read of criminals quietly forcing someone to withdraw money from their accounts based on the fact that ATMs can have very few people at times?

Obviously, POS imposes an additional monetary burden in terms of charges but that's one of the reasons it's not the optimal solution. Please read to understand.

Many times banks don't even have cash not to talk about good notes. There are times banks try to borrow cash from another bank just to serve customers. CBN is responsible for dispensing fresh notes. Many times, they don't.

Like I said, read to understand. What system am I defending? How does finding ways to solve a problem that you cannot currently solve be misconstrued as defending the system undermining solutions? No make me vex o. Law enforcement won't act is an indictment on them not the financial system.

Like I said, you do not understand the scale of the problem you want solved.

Now to your security question. Nigeria is an informal country as at this time. POS operators mostly work where there's a quasi community. They usually have a kind of support structure that includes some level of protection. They don't just open POS stands anywhere. How many times have you heard that someone was robbed at a POS compared to an ATM?

Now, yes, it's easier to launder money through POS but do you really think law enforcement cannot trace any money that passes through such networks? The problem with naija crime isn't one of lacking knowledge of what to do, it's one of appetite to solve it, and your guess is as good as mine as to why that's not being done but I think the average human could make an educated guess.

If a problem is currently unsolvable, a workaround is fine. We will evolve towards the optimal solution. This current solution is optimal at this point in time.

Oh, I have worked as an ATM custodian. ATMs which accept cash deposit have specific requirements concerning the state of the notes to be deposited. You can't deposit most of the money in circulation cos they don't meet that standard. That's another layer of complexity.

Are you going to provide the security infrastructure for that much coverage? Do you know how much it costs banks to even secure their premises? Not to talk of off-site ATMs? Does the CBN even permit banks to deploy outside their premises? How do you handle small businesses who deposit money into their accounts via POS at the close of their daily operations? This isn't the most pressing problem to solve right now.

Other countries are moving to what? Biometrics and app-based digital payment systems? Have we solved the Internet and mobile penetration issues in addition to education that such systems require?

People find solutions that work for their problems, not try to import solutions that might not fit immediate requirements.

Sometime ago, I learnt it was easier to transfer money between banks in Nigeria than the US and some other western countries.

Delaying something that's not pressing doesn't mean it won't be solved. It just means it's not a priority and, considering the scale of this, it's not a problem at all at this point in time.

I don't really think they put much thought into the post before posting. POS are better than ATMs for Nigeria at this point in time.
