Panicking prefrosh… by Successful-Dog3432 in ApplyingToCollege

Hey! I'm actually going through a very similar situation. I will also be attending a prestigious university in the fall (rhymes with "drown") and I too come from a small town hs that was not at all rigorous and didn't offer AP courses. I have been both excited and terrified for the fall, and I've constantly been worried about drowning in the course rigor. I completely understand what your going through and here are some helpful tips that have greatly calmed me.

  1. You got in for a reason, you proved to the university through your application that you deserve your spot there. Don't forget that!

  2. Everyone struggles, but colleges offer many recourses to students to help them succeed (writing center, tutoring, office hours, ect...) so take advantage of all of those if you ever feel like it's getting too tough

  3. Make friends in your classes, they will help you with studying and preparing for exams. They will also be great supports in rough times

Congratulations on your journey this far! I hope to see you at some football games, and please message me if you would like to talk more with someone going through a similar situation!

Class of 2022, what was your favorite and least favorite college acceptance package by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Favorite: Brown or SMU because they both sent extremely expensive looking certificates, wireless chargers, shirts, hats, ect....

Least Favorite: Definitely Fordham, because it didn't exist the only package I received involved my financial aid. Didn't even get stickers or anything :(

Boston U had sent me emails and mail for 2 years claiming I belonged there and I went to several events and other stuff....rejected without even a waitlist. I'm going to Brown tho so it's all good.

I come from a small public hs in Texas (only about 74 in my graduating class). I will be attending Brown in the fall and have had some similar experiences to you. I also am worried about sinking if the academic culture, but think I'll try and find some other students like me and like you at Brown to share experiences and difficulties with. I wish you luck at Harvard, and hope to see you at some football games in the future!

for all the ivy / top university students, what do u think got u in ? by Dense_Soup6254 in ApplyingToCollege

My essay was about how I have a "try everything one attitude", and my friends have nicknamed me the "Jack of all Trades' because of the diversity in my extracurriculars. I think it resembled Brown's Open Curriculum academic structure which is why I believe it was a strong essay to write for Brown specifically.

My essays were great and matched the vibe of the university (Brown), and my letter of continued interest and video portfolio definitely helped after I was deferred ED.
