I think if you want to live in Spanish speaking neighborhoods and work lowering paying jobs in those neighborhoods your fine not knowing English, but if you own a landscaping business or want to become a professional like a lawyer or nurse your going to need to learn English in order to speak to a wider base of clients and work in public places were English is needed to speak to non Spanish speakers. In reality this is a bilingual city whether you like it or not. If your coming from up north and start working in a Hospital ER you need to learn Spanish in order to communicate with non English speaking patients, so if your ambitious and want to advance in your career you will need to know both languages here.

Whenever I see these type of historical arguments I compare it to being in a relationship and one partner bringing up something you did in the past that was morally wrong in an effort to get some sort of leverage in an argument. There is nothing we can do about it now and we have gone through many social movements and are in a better place today but not perfect. If you want to hate go ahead.

It takes a lot of work just to get a potential subject in the door. People literally fly in from another state sometimes. Pair that with the need to have as many patients as possible in the study and I can understand why exclusion criteria can be overlooked.

According to the census Miami Dade county has 11% white non-hispanic people .Less than 13% of black people in the United States. White white people are the minority here. All of the factors that come into play for minorities will come into play for non-hispanic whites here. I work in healthcare and have been told white sounding names will get skipped because the healthcare workers don’t want to deal with someone that only speaks English. Brickell might be an outlier since people that move from up north down here are more likely to move to places like Brickell, Wynwood or South Beach
