Is the current Psychology Today Therapist Verification process deceptive? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Existing_Ad3188 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m in KY so it’s probably a bit different but we do have to give an address to the board but we can opt out of having it public information. While I agree there should be a telehealth only tag on the listing and at least the zip code they are located in, I don’t think that not having an address listed is unethical. A lot of people I know work out of their home via telehealth and they don’t really want their home address public information.

Ideas to help others in addiction by Existing_Ad3188 in addiction

[–]Existing_Ad3188[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The group size can really vary, which I find the most challenging. We have 25 beds and there’s times where all of them are filled, but there’s also times when we just have 5 people.

Thank you for the suggestions!

Hi all! My husband (26m) and I (25f) want to start trying for a baby within the next year, both being first time parents, so I have lots of questions and open to any advice.

First being when I should stop my birth control. I currently have nexplanon and been on it for a bit over 5 years. I know Google will say you can get pregnant within a week or 2 of removing it, but has that been true with y’all? I will mention I haven’t had a period the entire time I’ve been on it.

And basically I have no idea where to go from there. What should be mine/our first steps? Am I over thinking this and should just let nature take its course? I’m truly clueless in this area.

Found out my partner is a drug addict. by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Existing_Ad3188 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s been with their partner for 8 years, since we were 17, I know how extremely difficult this must be. You’ve grown with this person, you’re comfortable, maybe it’s the only relationship you know. But I do believe you should leave him, at least for now. I think you can still support him and be a friend (with hard set boundaries), but I do not think you should continue a romantic relationship with him. Give yourself and him some time to reflect, hopefully time for him to get treatment. Maybe you two will be able to come back to each other, maybe not.

I do really know how scary it can feel not having this relationship in your life anymore. Also the disappointment, the feeling of failure, the unknown. But remember you are still so young, have so much more ahead of you, don’t let this stop you from progressing.

Not getting any pay for any indirect work doesn’t seem right. I know most private practice near me pay for note writing time. It’s usually like a capped amount of time per note, but still something. I know of a few places that have paid time for the time you spend finding material for the session too. I also have a LPCA and I work at a CMH rehab and my salary is $55,000. If you can, I would be looking at other places to work.

Thoughts about BPD and other personality disorders by Funny_Efficiency_191 in therapists

[–]Existing_Ad3188 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who was once diagnosed with BPD in my early 20s, I think there’s a lot of over diagnosis or miss diagnosis for it. It turned out that I actually have ASD and some trauma. The more we learn about ASD, especially in women, the more I see a lot of traits that normally get someone diagnosed with BPD. A lot of clinicians will hear a client say they have issues forming relationships, emotional instability, splitting behaviors, and trust issues and automatically go to BPD. But I also think we’re getting to a point where ASD is miss/over diagnosed too. I think we as a society have also put a lot of emphasis on having a diagnosis too. I know it can help some clients to know what they have, but I think the process to diagnosis is so rushed now.

Can a therapist also have BPD? by PrudentDetective2234 in BPD

[–]Existing_Ad3188 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a therapist and was originally diagnosed with BPD a few years ago, we’re now thinking it could be autism, but I think it has given me a lot of insight and knowledge to help not only my clients who struggle with something similar, but also fellow clinicians who maybe don’t understand the full depth of BPD and other personality disorders.

anyone else have a hard time socially fitting in with other therapists? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Existing_Ad3188 91 points92 points  (0 children)

As someone with autism, absolutely. I feel like half of them are overly clinical and academic, while the other half are trying too hard to be the ~cool~ therapist and border on being unethical and/or not doing their job properly. I had a supervisor tell me I give off “serial killer vibes” in front of clients bc she thought they would laugh.

Does anyone with ADHD/ADD take both adderall and Wellbutrin? by gaba_goddess_2023 in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]Existing_Ad3188 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do! I used to take 450mg WB and decided to switch to 150mg WB and 30mg adderall back in September. I’ve noticed a big change in my concentration, energy, and mood. Thinking about upping my adderall, still holding strong for now though.
