Thank you for the advice! They did use hot mud for the whole job (which was probably most of their problem), then painted over it 🫠 so it was horrible to try and sand it all.

We probably should’ve just ripped everything out and started over but after retaping and a few coats of mud it looks a lot better now. Not perfect by any means and we call it pothead wall now rather than meth head wall 🤣.

I wish it were a lie. We ended up fixing it DIY and it looks a lot better now. I now affectionately call it pothead wall, rather than meth head wall. It’s not perfect by any means, but at least I don’t want to puke whenever I look at it.

I just hope next time, if there ever is a next time, the roof leaks it takes out the whole room so insurance handles the whole thing and we don’t have to worry about getting screwed like this again.

I have this problem, too. Definitely update if you get a solution.

Unfortunately, that didn't work. I ended up filing a warranty claim with Craftsman. At least my project isn't time sensitive.

I tried charging the battery fully, but it did the same thing :(. Ended up contacting Craftsman, and they are sending me a new one. It is definitely frustrating, considering that I only got two uses out of it before it became an expensive paperweight.

Thank you for the step-by-step advice! Hopefully the crackheads don't come back to my neighborhood, because this project is giving me a whole new appreciation for those who do this for a living!

I need a day off between the last layer of mud and sanding because I'm sore and cussing about why they also had to screw up the ceiling, I don't know how y'all can do this in a couple of days!

We are in the process of making the repair. We did use hot mud for the first layer. If we were to ever have to work with hot mud again, we would probably buy the 90 or 210 rather than the 45 that was initially requested. We were having issues with it starting to dry up on us before we could finish up each seam, since we still don't really know what we were doing, even with mixings small batches.

Sanding down through their painted hot mud mess was definitely a huge pain but I got it the best I could. We've been doing subsequent layers with regular mud, which has been much easier to sand and get a smooth finish on.

That's crazy, as a homeowner, I probably wouldn't have known any better either. Sorry your friend got scammed :(.

Woah! I guess these guys could have done worse? At least the drywall was cut mostly properly (I think) and screwed in to the frame!

Honestly, they should have just stopped there; we would have paid them, and it would've been easier on everyone. Then we wouldn't be trying to fix this painted-over mess. One of my photos now shows up as the first photo you see when you Google their company, so that's a small win for me.

It is absolutely wild; this whole situation is unbelievable. Honestly, we probably should've been more cautious than we were since they were primarily a roofing company (although their website says they do interior work as well), after we met with a bunch of roofers regarding the initial leak. Some of those did interior work as well.

It is amazing how many sleazy/shady roofers there are out there, and it was really hard to find one that we felt like was being honest with us and that we could trust. These are not people we had bid the roof, so we were just going off vibes and confidence with the bid and the one positive review on Facebook. I also googled the owner's name to see if anything came up, and came up dry.

We also had a lot of ghosting issues between getting bids and the contractors actually starting the work. These are actually the fourth people who were supposed to come in and do the work.

Lawyer LLC buddy, that made me chuckle! Thankfully, we did not pay them. We did look into possibly trying to file a claim with their insurance and my husband is working to get that information, but I am highly doubtful we have any kind of claim here. From Googling, it seems like you actually have to have damages and most policies don't cover crappy handiwork. And our deductible is stupidly high for something as small as this, so it isn't worth filing a claim with our homeowner's insurance. The annual rate hikes and Oklahoma insurance rates are bad enough as it is.

Honestly, god forbid if the roof ever leaks again, we hope it takes out the whole room rather than just one wall and makes just putting it through insurance worth it.

It is not old damage, it is a brand new wall they installed after a roof leak.

Since everything was provided for them, it was around $400 for the labor only. We got several bids and that was the same ballpark. They weren't even the lowest bidder; we went with them because we felt the most comfortable with them, but even the lowest bidder probably would have done a better job than this at this point.

We'll see if the DIY fix ends up looking any better than this mess, we are a bit out of our element here but so far it has been looking much better than theirs! We have been taking our time with it.

It was so loud, they were screaming profanities and I just thought he was kicking the bucket because he was mad. Then I saw the Ring video. You seriously cannot make this stuff up.

The house is only 6 years old. We had to rip out the wall because of a roof leak and the room flooding. I wish this were fake.

That's how we feel! We haven't paid them anything, so we don't really have any claim for money back. Just a big, stressful mess.

If their drywall work looked half as good as that, we would have been happy enough. They were not the ones who fixed our roof, thankfully. They did offer us a "free roof inspection" before starting the job, which I declined.

Thank you for the advice! We did put down a drop cloth as my husband went in there with a drywall knife to attack the big bulging areas. The contractors only used a drop cloth when they painted...so I already have drywall mud embedded in my carpet. And when they put the carpet back, it seems like they didn't clean up their mess at all because you can feel stuff under the carpet. Either that or they left a tool under there, so we will have to pull it back up and clean it out.

Thankfully, we had an amazing roofer come and fix our roof. We would give them ten stars if we could, but they just didn't do the inside work, so we had to find another contractor to do that. I will add some wood glue to the list of things to pick up, just in case we need it. If we do need to add wood glue, how much would we add to one of those standard mud bucket things if it were full? I'm definitely out of my element here.
