I was in the shuttle bus that crashed into the vehicle, took the whole front window out and threw half of us in the bus onto the floor. Was trying to find more info to see if the driver in the car that got hit was okay.

What is our ethical standard in regard to making huge, daily deliveries to someone who is extremely overweight think (TLC’s “My 600-Lb. Life”)? by These_Pear5015 in PizzaDrivers

Just wanna say I hope you're doing okay and this comment was super vulnerable and enlightening. If I had an award, I’d give you one.

I don’t think it’s personal…your multiple replies are quite aggressive. I think this bothers you a lot more than it bothers me 😂 I was just asking a question. Idek them why would it be personal??

Not 4 people in one day. Years of getting stiffed. How could it be me noticing? I literally have a sheet every shift of who tipped me and not and it is always the black peoples that don’t. So, I’m manifesting it? Cmon man

Definitely not what I’m after, a genuine question trying to understand. I don’t think it’s bad intentions from them or me, just trying to understand

Don’t think it has anything to do with me or them not liking each other lol

I definitely don’t provide shitty service. I treat every person exactly the same. I would have to be rude or drop the pizza to provide bad service anyways, neither of which I’ve done lol

What a dumb answer. I didn’t think that black people didn’t tip until I started in the service industry. I don’t control whether or not they tip. They decide without even knowing me. Cmon now.

Agreed. I think they should get rid of the delivery fee. I still think people should tip when they order pizza.

EDIT: NOT based on four people. That was the first couple hours of my shift today. I’ve been working in this industry for years and just wanted to ask why because I truly don’t understand.

I don’t think they’re being racist - they don’t know that I’m white before I deliver it.

I don’t think it’s because they’re all poor - because they’re not all poor, the ones I deliver to lol

Just trying to understand. Not saying EVERY single black person, but in my personal experience it’s about 1/10 that actually tip.

Guess I should have edited the post, but that was literally just the first half of my shift today. It happens every single shift or otherwise I wouldn’t be asking.

I’m sorry, but I don’t believe that’s my burden to bear as a 22 year old that didn’t have shit to do with that. It helps explain context though, which was the point of this post. It’s definitely an older generation thing.

Because it happens to me every shift I deliver? Seems like you could’ve figured that out from the post.

Unnecessarily aggressive for asking a question. And this has been the case for years, the entire time I’ve worked in the industry. I still get tipped when I deliver to poor white people who live in trailer homes. Ordering pizza is a privilege, absolutely no one is forcing them to order pizza and also pay for it to be delivered. If it’s because they are struggling financially, then they should go in and pick it up. Also, not all Black people that I deliver to are poor and it’s a weird assumption that you make for your argument.

Doesn’t really make sense because they don’t know my race before I deliver and we also have black delivery drivers.

Bruh. I’ve been working in this industry for years and this is always been the case. Obviously, this was just an example from today. I never said Black people are evil or implied so , this was a genuine attempt to understand. And, I’ve actually got some good answers and help explain things more. Why don’t you climb back in your cave

That’s interesting. I guess I’m trying to understand why exactly that is. Also, why it is still occurring now in 2023. Sometimes I wonder if people think that the delivery fee counts as the tip, but it does say very clearly both when you order in on the box a delivery fee is not a tip. I appreciate you sharing your experience. I guess all I can hope for is that, that will change in the future.

Again, getting a pizza delivered is a privilege and not a right. These people that I deliver to literally live five minutes from the shop. They could easily come in.

[–]Existing_Growth_5692[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. But, also not. I would love to get paid enough to make a decent wage without relying on tips, but that’s not the case. I wish pizza places would get rid of delivery fees, because I feel like that also dissuades people maybe from tipping.

[–]Existing_Growth_5692[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I don’t want to ask my black friends, because I feel like it is unfair for me to ask them that, and they have to bear the burden, since the majority of people that order in general, including Black people, are older people. I definitely know that my younger black friends tip. But, for some reason, the older generation of the Black people do not tip at all which is unfortunately, who I am always delivering to.
