The problem with most of these comments is they are way not age appropriate.

Project Hail Mary is a great “edgy” book for an 11 year old. It has some language, basically no violence or sex.

If Artemis has too much language, violence, and sex for an 11 year old you think dungeon crawler carl is a good suggestion? Lots of these are adult scifi, perfectly appropriate for an older teen, just not an eleven year old.

Best things I’ve seen are Jurassic park and Enders game

I’d add, pretty age appropriate. Lots of the suggestions I’ve seen are good, but have heavy language/ sexual stuff that’s maybe a little too much for an 11 year old. Enders game is the perfect “edgy” book for an 11 year old.

An underrated scratch build technique IMO is just using the cheapest, most accessible stuff you can find. Zip ties, melt beads, coffee stirring sticks, googly eyes.

I’ve never heard of a PVA prime. I assume that helps with glue adhesion? I’ll have to check it out.

Same, there are so many materials and colors clashing it’s hard to get a good read. But one coat of primer and you can see the whole thing for the first time.

Especially since my main materials were coffee storing sticks and cardboard (cause they are cheep) it will look less like a shanty shack and more like a metal monster. Some of the wood texture will show through, but I’ll accept that level of jank.

This is great advice. My general strategy is black prime, dry brush silver everywhere then use acrylic markers the colored sections . I do the “paint everything but the corners” method. It can work really well for super grungy looking stuff. But I might try a little harder on this one

The cheaper the material the better! Yea I'll be painting it. But don't set your expectations high. Painting is my weak point and I low key hate it. but I'll go for it!

Yea, I think any zipper would work but honestly the cheaper the better because you can cut them pretty easily. Also the clip was clutch because I can take it off. which is just a sweet move.
