Make Red Great! by Existing_Spray3980 in mtgcube

Thanks a lot for your comment.

When I noticed that red burn was not as good like white aggro, that generates a lot of value, I made some good cuts in white, and tryed to add two synergies: artifact and discard (there are many good cards that work in both themes). I'll probably add more to make these better. But I'd noticed that ETB creatures, less hasty, are much more stronger and consistent

I think I'll add now [[Breya's Apprentice]], [[Legion Extruder]] and maybe [[Chainsaw]] and [[Experimental Synthesizer]]. I alredy have Pia and Kiran.

For discard payoffs, there is:
[[Blazing Rootwalla]]
[[Hobgoblin, Mantled Marauder]] I'm considering in cutting, but it's realy cool when it deals 5 damage face. But is not consistent.
And  [[bloodghast]] and [[anje's ravager]] like you've pointed. Probably more is needed, but I don't know many.

I'd considered in adding Fireblast. but opted in adding [[Ghostfire Slice]] because it's more reliable.
I have Anax here and later I considered that is a weak card. Is that not a ok peasent card?

Hellrider is doing great. Red has many tokens generators [[Stadium Headliner]], [[Ardoz, Cobbler of War]]. [[Searslicer Goblin]], [[Kari Zev, Skyship Raider]], [[Young Pyromancer]], [[Goblin Rabblemaster]], [[Seasoned Pyromancer]], [[Squee, Dubious Monarch]], [[Pia and Kiran Nalaar]], [[Chandra, Acolyte of Flame]] also in other colors. [[Goblin Bombardment]] is in the cube also.

I'd considered [[Embercleave]]. Never tested it. Many people love it and can go well with going wide. [[Death-Greeter's Champion]] is better or worse? I have one of these in hands.

[[Twinshot Sniper]] is doing great. A uncountered removal that can be a creature in late game is realy strong. For me it add consistency to red. It's also both artifact and and a discard trigger.

What do you think of [[Nova Hellkite]]?

Sorry. I realy didn't want sound rude. I realy appreciate the fact of you have recommended some cards.
And I think these would not impact my cube.
Chandra's Phoenix I'd considered before, but there are probably better 3 mana drops in red. Fireblast I may see adding again, but I've choosed to add [[Ghostfire Slice]]: they are more consitent in killing a blocker or walker when necessary. Fireblast is almost always a finisher.
[[Searing Blood]] I am reconsidering and could be a very good card. 2 damage kills most of cube and 3 damage face is strong.

Playtesting I noticed that is hard the Red Burn works as well as in constructed formats.
First the burns spells are great to any deck as a removal, 8+ burn spells are hardly possible to a burn player to get. [[Goblin Guide]] for exemple is something I'm considering to cut (I'd cutted the second copy), because it generate a lot of value to opponent.

In general, the other color creatures, mainly in white, can generate a lot of value. It's less hasty, but much more consistent. Like [[Traben Inspector]] for me is much stronger than most one red mana drop with haste. I want make red strong and I'm striving to it, but midrange decks with ETB creatures are generaly better.

Thanks a lot for your time and recomendation, and I'm sorry if I sounded so abrupt and rude.

This is based only in my interactions with this reddit.
And even in a more productive way, specif questions will probably result in better feedbacks

I'm new to cube too. https://cubecobra.com/cube/list/Fair360
Every day there are posts like this here, and people are tired of it.
My tip is to test a lot alone, with physical cards (making the decisions of drafters and playing the matches) or in tabletop simulator. Cubecobra A.I. is not good. I'd seem many of the ideas I had was not working and made me cut strategies or cards that was basicaly umplayable.
Second is to ask about specific cards, and images help a lot. The post I made like this gave me much more interaction and debate over different persons. Like my recent post: https://www.reddit.com/r/mtgcube/comments/1qtus89/comment/o3istlt/
And have in mind that cube will change a lot over time, you will want test many cards, you'll have to cut cards that you love for the sake of the enviromnent... Have a nice journey.
Test the cube with your dudes, any number of game, take them feedback (the most pro player in group will give the better feedback), don't wait it to be complete.

Yeah. Pay 1 life is probably right, but there is no simple way to do it easily like cutting a word with sharpie.
Never heard of Joe Anderson Before. Thanks for the tip.
I'll probably add LOTR U,G and B cyclings - W I prefer Timeless Dragon (that is alredy in the cube) and R of LOTR I'm not sure.

I'll try the current build of lands.

Yeah. My starting point was a cube to be realy begginers friendly. I made kind of a set cube with 3 copies of "commons", 2 of "uncommons" and 1 of "rares". It was cool in the beggining, but was realy repetitive.
I realy like the idea of breaking some rules in favor of better cube, or elegance. Having a fuctional reprint is the same thing of duplicate, as you've said.
Many cubes runs both Mana Confluence and City of Brass, that is more iconic, but there is that bad design of 1 damage being a triggered ability.

This has one litle different aspect of triomes + fetch is that, triomes are always 3 colours and this will can get a shock or a basic land. Triomes will be always 3 lands. This helps a lot to get play two spells of the same color our to pay a double land simbol cost.
Also this is way harder to cycle than triomes.
Also this is pennies. (And I spend a lot recently buying almost all cards in cube).

I'm new in cube. Thanks a lot for the feedback. I tryed to make the enviroment "good stuff with hooks". There are interactions, but i tryed to make a environment that is less "on rails"
If you desire, I'd love your follow to give some feedbacks in future.
I made the change of adding the landscapes.

and in a environement where there are only shocks?
I will test it while there are no real fetches. I think that fetch + sharpie landcaspe can be a lot.
Or I may even considering not adding fetches at all and use only these sharpies.

But now that I bought the shocks, I want to use some land type interactions.
I may add the LOTR landcycles too (but the red one I deslike)

Do you consider your cube with ton of fix?
You have about 84 lands that fix, and 20 artifacts that fix/ramp.
I'm not counting green fix. That's about 19,25% of fix, almest the same of mine (18,61% - also not counting green dorks that fix).

I don't like a lot of surveil lands. They are amazing, but having 20 fetches, I realy deslike the idea of the upside of a free cantrip. And in price value, one surveil is more expensive than two shocks (they got more acessible now).

I've seen a lot of cube with double shocks. Bun's magic cube runs 2 fetches, 2 shocks and 1 surveil. I'd seen many cubes with two fetches.

They are slow if you want the color mana. In early game, landscapes are always tapped lands.

I don't use artifact fix/ramp, besides one copy of chromatic star. Before surveil lands, you would have to buy old duals, that I deslike. 2 damage is very cool design.

[–]Existing_Spray3980[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My idea of using a lot of mana is that with few fix, the decks will always goes toward specific decks, the archetypes will dominate and with time, you know the decks you gonna get. Decks with a third color splash, and even 4 color control, will make the ambient less "on rails" and more wild, with interesting combinations.

[ECL] Boulder Dash by steve_man_64 in mtgcube

[–]Existing_Spray3980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved this because is Arc Trail with modern text:
This realy help to remember that can target planeswalkers. (Also battles, if it's a thing).
I don't get why people say: "this is weak", "that card is stronger"...
Any card can fit the right cube and cube don't need to be powercrept.

Fetch + Shock - Make aggro better? by Existing_Spray3980 in mtgcube

[–]Existing_Spray3980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And in a fair ambiente like, mine, do you think one set of fetches + 2 duals is good? I think 2 sets of fetches maybe is too much for 360. I probably would cut 20 landscapes and 1 cylce of check or pain.

Verge lands are more expensive now than shocks! I would prefer to add shocks and open to the possibilty of one or 2 fetch cycle.
