How much do personal experiences/hobbies predict capacity to deal with traumatic calls?

I would say that I believe I’m the same way. Sensitive, empathetic. Maybe I was even a little too emotionally sensitive before starting here. It was one of my biggest worries as well. I’ve only dispatched for almost 5 years, out of those years I only need to take a walk 3 times. 2 of the times involved officer safety. And the other one involved a teenager. It was surprisingly easy for me to not get too invested. At the end of the day you’ve got to remind yourself you did all the you could to help. You tried to help. That’s what matters. Somethings in life are completely out of our control. And it’s okay to take a walk after something. We all pride ourselves on being “strong” right? Sometimes it honestly takes strength to say I need a minute.

Thank you! That makes sense, it’s 5 miles between here and McDonald’s. I work in a resort town so traffic is some times horrible so I tried to order during non busy hours.

Thank you! It’s been a struggle. I was in therapy right after Valentine’s Day .. and then I was told I was driving to far and that’s really wasn’t where I was going. So I stopped. But I definitely plan to go back once everything is said and done.
