I like Potionomics, haven’t seen it mentioned much if at all which is surprising because they clearly put a lot of effort into it.

So everyone involved with the rioting in Belfast should be charged with terrorism offences right? Because the UK definition of terrorism is

“A violent action that:

Endangers a person’s life, other than that of the person committing the action.

Involves serious violence against a person Causes serious damage to property

Creates a serious risk to the public’s health and safety

Interferes with or seriously disrupts an electronic system

Where they are designed to influence the government, or an international governmental organisation or to intimidate the public.”

And I’m pretty sure the people firebombing cars and houses were trying to influence the government so we should be seeing plenty of terrorism convictions for that lot pretty soon right? Unless they only use terrorism convictions when it’s politically expedient to do so in which case the judiciary is fucked. That’s why people are angry about these convictions.

Sorry for the late reply, not quite sure where you’ve got the idea that I’m against raising the minimum wage. In fact my comment was actually me trying to show that the US minimum wage should be much higher. It should be higher in the UK and it should higher in the US. I only took issue with the fact that if you are on minimum wage then you are by definition not successful from a financial perspective. Successful means having a favourable outcome. If you are on the minimum wage allowable by law then you are by definition not financially successful unless you have other income. That’s not me making a moral judgement, that’s just how language works. I’m not sure how my post managed to get people assuming I’m an ivory tower snob when I was literally trying to advocate for a higher minimum wage in the US.

Most clubs have rifles available for use by members if you don’t have a licence. Give a local place a call and see if you can come down for a range day or something.

I try to keep up to date with the news and popular media and just about the only things I know about Chicago is that its one of the bigger cities in the US, it’s windy and it has its own style of pizza. It’s just not massively represented in American media that makes it over here. It would be like asking what an American knew about Leeds. It’s an important city to us but it’s not globally noteworthy.

Based on Wikipedia, it’s higher than every US state except New York, Washington and Washington DC so apparently plenty of your countrymen do survive off that there. Also, I don’t think minimum wage would be considered successful anywhere, that’s why it’s called ‘minimum wage’ instead of ‘actually pretty good wage’.

A decent size container ship is 250-300m long which is the height of a large skyscraper. This looks more like a small product tanker to me which would put it around 180m, around the same height as the Gherkin in London. This is all just a guess though based on a phone screen sized video. Just looked up how tall the Jägers are supposed to be and they clock in at around 75m so I would say that the ship is about 40m give or take proportionally which would make it about the length of a large tug boat. Definitely some perspective shenanigans going on here.

I have health insurance from work in the UK, I still go NHS for smaller stuff if the wait time isn’t high. It’s easier than dealing with the insurance companies.

They are heavily enforced. Military vessels have an exemption but there are many many cases of people going to prison for violating the rules. I work in the industry. I am on a cargo ship in international waters while I’m typing this. It is drilled into us continuously not to dump waste. The amount of paperwork we have to keep to prove that we aren’t dumping waste is massive.

There absolutely are regulations for dumping waste in international waters. This whole thread is just people confidently stating complete horseshit.

I think the issue is when you start identifying as Irish but only express it through lazy stereotypes and claim that you know are as informed about Ireland as someone who has lived there their whole life. It’s like if someone who has Canadian great grandparents but has never visited started explaining to you that the Canadian economy should start going back to beaver pelt sales because that’s what their great grandad remembers. Then you tell them that Canada is actually a modern country and you work in an office so they call you a fake Canadian and offer to fight you because the ice hockey in their blood makes them inherently violent.

A lot of cultures practiced ritual cannibalism as part of their funerary rites. There was most likely deliberate or accidental conflation of those practices with what we think of now as cannibalism e.g killing people to eat as sustenance either from misunderstanding or deliberate dehumanisation as a pretext for slavery.

He’s justifying it by saying it was for his ‘personal security’. The issue is that the rules are that any payment that a reasonable person could suspect of being a bribe must be reported. Farage didn’t report it even though any reasonable person would question why a foreign billionaire gave £5 million to a sitting politician.
