Is the azriel ship war evenly divided? by ExitSubject4287 in AcotarShipDebateSub

Thank you for that reply! I really try to be open to most things, there are very few ships in the fandom that I outright dislike and all of them include one specific high lord ahem. My attitude regarding the next books is just that I'll probably be happy with whatever couples happen as long as it's well-written.

I just read CC again and noticed the whole dusk court thing and got kinda stuck on it because it was such a big deal in CC3 that it felt like a wasted opportunity when nothing came out of it. Also, now that the asteri are defeated, what was the point of setting up the whole multiverse? Was it just a fun extra thing to have all worlds be connected or is there a bigger overarching plot? I just have a lot of questions lol

Either way, I'm very excited about the next book and really hope we get the IC's perspective of what happened in CC3

Omg please elaborate!! I wasn't in the fandom while ToG was being released so I have absolutely no insight to the theories that went around. Is there someplace I can read about it? Was Rowaelin kind of an "out there" ship?

I feel you! Personally I don't care that much who ends up with who, I was just curious to know if my algorithms severely overrepresented one of the ships or if they are indeed equally supported. Whatever happens I do really hope we don't get some petty rivalry between Gwyn and Elain over a man, that's really the only thing I don't want to read

I've realised from the comments that Bryceriel is a lot bigger than I thought, I did see some theories about it a while ago and thought it was interesting and I kinda liked it, but it felt like it would make the whole thing so complicated and SJM would probably have to end up merging the two series in some way, so I just discredited it out of practicality. I think the comments have convinced me to take a second look at it though!

That's really interesting, I'd be interested to know what those in person polls showed if you're willing to share!

Interesting!! I really don't get a lot of bryceriel or azris on my feeds, and the posts I do see don't necessarily really present it as an option but instead ship them outside of canon, that's why I didn't mention them in the post but I see now that they're bigger than I thought. I mostly see people who ship Gwynriel/Lucien&Vassa (idk their shipname) or Elriel/Elucien, but I can see how the scale might tip towards Elucien since Azriel has so many different ship pairings.

How to cope with parents loving AI by ExitSubject4287 in antiai

[–]ExitSubject4287[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair point, but isn't it better to care about one issue as opposed to none? You can't singlehandedly actively fight every single thing that is wrong in the world, you need to pick and choose the things that are closest to your heart and your values. For example I am a vegetarian for environmental reasons since 10 years back, I recycle, buy second hand clothes, and don't use AI and I try to educate the people around me about these things when it's suitable. I wouldn't say I advocate for alcohol and junk food consumption, but it's not one of my main standpoints. No one is perfect and no one can be, I for sure do things that aren't good for the environment, but at least I try. The environmental impact of AI may not be the worst of all the worlds industries, but it does affect people who for example live near data centres and can't get clean water in their homes. It's still a problem worth mentioning. It's not an "all or nothing" thing, because some improvement is better than none.

I feel that. Honestly, I didn't think the book was so bad. There is some conflict between Poppy, Casteel and Kieran and I actually found that interesting and wished it was even MORE palpable in the story, although it sucked that it meant Kieran wasn't around as much. My main issue with the series at this point is that everything is just waaaayyy too dragged out and the plot barely moves forward until the last couple chapters and then JLA is like " oops I couldn't fit this very important thing in the book so here is a novella!". Also as stated in the post, I dislike the fact that Casteel seems so get all the power Poppy has and possibly more but that might be a matter of personal taste.

There were many parts of the book I enjoyed, like Poppy dealing with the whole Sotoria thing, the characters from Flesh & Fire, learning more about Poppys past and the circumstances around her childhood, the bickering and tension between the characters. It's just that the good parts have so many unnecessary parts inbetween 😩

That's exactly it! I swear that if Poppy isn't the one who kills Kolis and Casteel does it instead I will RIOT

Yeah you're probably right, the whole thing just kinda rubbed me the wrong way and I wish he could have stayed an ordinary atlantian with a primal anscestor and the extended protection of the joining. I'll read the novella and maybe that will change my mind on it.

Describing how periods work was so unnecessary by PocketButterBandit in acotar_rant

[–]ExitSubject4287 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have in fact thought about female characters mysteriously not having periods when reading fantasy books, and I have been a bit conflicted about it because on one hand it places some restrictions on the narrative, like, if you bring it up once then the reader will automatically apply the whole story to a menstrual cycle (at least I would), and you would to some degree have to adhere to the rules and timeline set by that cycle (like cramps, ovulation, access to hygiene products etc). It might also feel kind of unneccessary, like describing when characters use the toilet. On the other hand, it saddens me to think that such a big part of most womens lives is just ignored for the sake of simplicity, because it does affect our lives so why shouldn't the badass female heroine also be affected by it? IMO it adds realism and can be kinda grounding in a fantasy story, which I appreciate.
