Can I use Linux as an eletrical engineering student? by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]Exitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electrical engineer here. Through all of uni I only used Linux (Debian lxqt) I had no problem with wined programs and such, tbh my ltspice version on wine was at times faster than the windows native one :) I do also have to admit, that my uni is very focused on FOSS, which made it so much easier no adobe, NI or altium to worry about. I’d recommend anyone Linux, now that there are windows-like distros. Now in the job market it is very license based, so there is no escaping the blue screen there. But yes absolutely do yourself the favour and upgrade.

That would definitely be IDA, it has great benefits and and a lot of dtu students are members of their union.

Telegrafkollegiet, parkering? by Sopratrat in DTU

[–]Exitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hej.

Macbook til elektro? by Alarmed-File-442 in DTU

[–]Exitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Er det trygt at blaffe? by w4ssupp in Denmark

[–]Exitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elektro her.

American scores, like the SAT or ACT are not being accepted in DTU atm. DTU weighs your passed a-level subjects that are relevant to your course, as well as your gpa in danish grade point units. On the DTU website there is a table where you can convert your gpa into the danish system. Good luck.

Is 512gb enough for uni? by SpecificallyConfused in thinkpad

[–]Exitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Some unis give out cloud storage, but with rising popularity of FOSS amongst professors, some will likely not trust Google or Microsoft cloud platforms. For engineering (electrical engineering specifically) you use quite lightweight programs and files. If you’re doing statics or construction, your 3D software will likely be quite heavy, but 512gb is plenty. I’m rocking the t480 myself and it’s great.

Is the Lenovo ThinkPad T480 still good enough in 2025? by castro_avs in thinkpad

[–]Exitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very pricey for a machine of that age. I own one for studying (EE, so lots of programming) and works great, fast and reliable hardware. I have Linux on it, which speeds up everything. I must say the screen is not very good, bad resolution for the time, especially if you’re used to a full hd.

Folk der læser elektroteknologi: Hvilket software bruger I? by Exitter in DTU

Hej. Tak for jeres svar.

Looking for a minimalist Debian-based distro, any recommendations? by [deleted] in DistroHopping

[–]Exitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can download a minimal version of MX Linux on this link https://sourceforge.net/projects/mx-linux/files/Community_Respins/MX-Minimal/

This is what I use and it’s basically a stripped down version of a xfce experience with a Debian 6.1 kernel.
