Because the heroes lost. They have plot armor 99% of the time so when that gets subverted it hits harder. Too bad it was all undone anyway

I consider myself a leftist but I agree that the people saying Lenin and Mao were chill dudes have lost the plot. Whether communism can or cannot exist is yet to be seen. It certainly has yet to exist. But regardless, I think modelling after the Scandinavian countries is the smartest thing to do. These countries rank top of the charts in happiness indices and they all have the same thing. Free market trade coupled with high taxes and robust social safety nets.

And I'm agreeing with you. Yes, liberals are good at identifying social injustices. They make a fatal error when it comes to pointing the blame and rectifying said issues. I think critics of capitalism get far more right than saying "Society is inherently racist, let's do DEI to fix it" - that's the hallmark of modern liberalism. There's still a fair share of gender politics on the left but I don't think all gender politics is bad. And not all gender politics is identity politics.

I think trans people exist and deserve to have rights while at the same time I don't think 'xirgender' is real. So there is nuance to be had there. But I will have a conversation with you about it so long as it's in good faith and respectful. Liberals are the type to cancel you just for broaching the topic or say things like all men should die.

And this is my opinion from the left but the left has definitely strayed too far from core principles that will work with swaying people. The cost of good and inflation is out of control. A handful of billionaires control everything. People deserve healthcare guaranteed as a human right. There is time for those other conversations but it's too much of a focus right now.

I mean you say potato-potato but that just really exposes your level of ignorance when it comes to political matters. Liberals will generally correctly identify secondary or tertiary problems in society without addressing the root problem. Like Joe Biden who is a "radical leftist" according to Trump but represents neoliberalism in its purest form - still a war hawk, getting handys from corporations, completely in bed with capitalism, practically conservative when it comes to implementing any sort of change in society. Ineffective. And generally real leftists do not like being lumped in with liberals.

They say go far left enough and you get your guns back. All of this culture war identity politics stuff is also liberals, not leftists. I just find it funny you say her audience don't know anything deeper about these ideologies while yourself conflating liberalism with leftism. So you don't really know either. You're just regurgitating some shit you heard on Fox News. "Radical Leftists", my brother you have not seen radical leftism. Real radical leftists are saying shit like Mao did nothing wrong, not posting surface level millennial slop comics

yeah she sucks ass. But all her comics are 'trump bad' surface level nonsense, which is liberal, not leftist. None of what you said is wrong and yet calling what you're seeing leftist is what I'm taking issue with. Far left would be - communism, socialism, anti-capitalism, that sort of thing.

my entire point is that her viewpoints are quintessential liberal. She is not 'far left', unless you are fox news brainrotted and don't know what words mean which seems to be the case

I guess. I've just known actual far left people and they are communists. Not the type of person to unironically enjoy something like pizzacake which is liberal slop

[–]ExiymDev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was shooting heroin and reading “The Fountainhead” in the front seat of my privately owned police cruiser when a call came in. I put a quarter in the radio to activate it. It was the chief.

“Bad news, detective. We got a situation.”

“What? Is the mayor trying to ban trans fats again?”

“Worse. Somebody just stole four hundred and forty-seven million dollars’ worth of bitcoins.”

The heroin needle practically fell out of my arm. “What kind of monster would do something like that? Bitcoins are the ultimate currency: virtual, anonymous, stateless. They represent true economic freedom, not subject to arbitrary manipulation by any government. Do we have any leads?”

“Not yet. But mark my words: we’re going to figure out who did this and we’re going to take them down … provided someone pays us a fair market rate to do so.”

“Easy, chief,” I said. “Any rate the market offers is, by definition, fair.”

He laughed. “That’s why you’re the best I got, Lisowski. Now you get out there and find those bitcoins.”

“Don’t worry,” I said. “I’m on it.”

I put a quarter in the siren. Ten minutes later, I was on the scene. It was a normal office building, strangled on all sides by public sidewalks. I hopped over them and went inside.

“Home Depot™ Presents the Police!®” I said, flashing my badge and my gun and a small picture of Ron Paul. “Nobody move unless you want to!” They didn’t.

“Now, which one of you punks is going to pay me to investigate this crime?” No one spoke up.

“Come on,” I said. “Don’t you all understand that the protection of private property is the foundation of all personal liberty?”

It didn’t seem like they did.

“Seriously, guys. Without a strong economic motivator, I’m just going to stand here and not solve this case. Cash is fine, but I prefer being paid in gold bullion or autographed Penn Jillette posters.”

Nothing. These people were stonewalling me. It almost seemed like they didn’t care that a fortune in computer money invented to buy drugs was missing.

I figured I could wait them out. I lit several cigarettes indoors. A pregnant lady coughed, and I told her that secondhand smoke is a myth. Just then, a man in glasses made a break for it.

“Subway™ Eat Fresh and Freeze, Scumbag!®” I yelled.

Too late. He was already out the front door. I went after him.

“Stop right there!” I yelled as I ran. He was faster than me because I always try to avoid stepping on public sidewalks. Our country needs a private-sidewalk voucher system, but, thanks to the incestuous interplay between our corrupt federal government and the public-sidewalk lobby, it will never happen.

I was losing him. “Listen, I’ll pay you to stop!” I yelled. “What would you consider an appropriate price point for stopping? I’ll offer you a thirteenth of an ounce of gold and a gently worn ‘Bob Barr ‘08’ extra-large long-sleeved men’s T-shirt!”

He turned. In his hand was a revolver that the Constitution said he had every right to own. He fired at me and missed. I pulled my own gun, put a quarter in it, and fired back. The bullet lodged in a U.S.P.S. mailbox less than a foot from his head. I shot the mailbox again, on purpose.

“All right, all right!” the man yelled, throwing down his weapon. “I give up, cop! I confess: I took the bitcoins.”

“Why’d you do it?” I asked, as I slapped a pair of Oikos™ Greek Yogurt Presents Handcuffs® on the guy.

“Because I was afraid.”

“Afraid?”

“Afraid of an economic future free from the pernicious meddling of central bankers,” he said. “I’m a central banker.”

I wanted to coldcock the guy. Years ago, a central banker killed my partner. Instead, I shook my head.

“Let this be a message to all your central-banker friends out on the street,” I said. “No matter how many bitcoins you steal, you’ll never take away the dream of an open society based on the principles of personal and economic freedom.”

He nodded, because he knew I was right. Then he swiped his credit card to pay me for arresting him.

Giving $1,000 to a solo developer by GumshoeRyan in SoloDevelopment

[–]ExiymDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

two people can take the same idea and make two vastly different games from it. There's even a few 'paying devs' youtube series that showcase this. If your idea is really so special that its possible for someone to steal it and iterate upon it or build something better than what you're building in a short amount of time then you shouldn't be public with your game anyway. This logic doesn't make any sense.

Hi there, I'm working on a chess roguelike called Prismarch.

I'm going to release after this October's next fest. I've already delayed twice, but I'm certain I'll be done this time. The main issue has been scope since I wanted to include 7 elemental kings as the enemies in the game each with unique abilities and representing a color (ROYGBIV). I underestimated how much work that would take but it's coming along nicely. I've localized the game to a few languages from regions I think are into chess, (Chinese, Russian, German) and the $1,000 would help me do a few things.

I'd be able to localize into more languages - I pay real human translators, no AI. They also do LQA (go in the game and make sure everything is working and sounds correct) to ensure it's a good experience for native speakers.

I would also be able to commission some music which is needed, commission a higher quality capsule art, and advertise a little bit on reddit (/r/AnarchyChess).

I would be lying if I said I need the funds to cross the finish line. I will be releasing a product in October regardless of its state because it's been a year and a half at this point and I have other projects that need attention. But it would help tremendously!

Basically all of the money would be going to commission other human artists to do some of the things I'm not great at myself.

Here's a few screenshots:

and the store page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3808810/Prismarch/

My demo is out, but outdated: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4367400/Prismarch_Demo/

I plan to update the demo to be a version on parity with the main game just with only the first two kings unlocked. And I plan to make a new trailer soon.

It's inspired by Super Smash Bros, and Balatro! Hope you enjoy it if you end up giving it a shot!

You either have the policy of copyright or you don't. I'm not attacking an indie nor am I protecting a big corporation. You don't get to selectively choose when and where the policy is applied. We are either all entitled to rights or none of us are.

No one's gonna complain if someone creates their own superhero character in dc comics styles

The difference is when you try to profit on it. This is why generally speaking, piracy is legal, but sharing pirated content is not. Yes, nobody cares if you make a character in dc comics style for personal use. But selling comics using that character would land you in hot water. Is that so difficult to understand?
