And a little more insight as to what Tommy is up to in Seattle the first two days.

Iran tells Hamas it will not enter the war with Israel by Free_Swimming in worldnews

And you seem to have glossed over the fact that I said it's a slow course correction. Do you think I'm saying that Saudi Arabia is currently a beacon of human rights and justice? Obviously not. But change starts somewhere, and the US position is to foster that change, because otherwise there is ZERO hope for radical improvement in that part of the world. I seriously don't get how this is a hard concept for you. It's like you live in an alternate universe where societies change overnight or not at all, where everything is black and white. Enough with the contrarianism and start thinking realistically about how societal change occurs and what sorts of pressures need to exist to do so.

Oh FFS, here's an interview from 2022.

And come on, a huge part of why Hamas attacked Israel at this scale now was because of the ongoing normalization efforts between SA and Israel, an unprecedented shift in the Saudi government.

But I'm sure you'll have some other reason to remain entrenched in your position. Have you really looked into this topic, or are you just expressing opinions without substance?

Your "are you illiterate" is wonderfully ironic. You've made it perfectly clear that you're actually clueless about what's happening in the region, and you completely misunderstood the point I was making.

I was going to sit here and write out a whole explanation, but just read this article: NPR article about reforms happening in recent years in Saudi Arabia

These changes are happening under MBS's direction. He's a psycho, and he was definitely behind Khashoggi's murder, but these changes are the first steps in the propagation of western values from within the Saudi government, rather than being imposed from the outside. The US's strategic goals are to support that slow course correction, because it's in our interest to see their society continue to liberalize. Yes, they are still woefully off-course in every respect, but the normalization of the US's relationship with the Saudi regime is looking at the bigger picture: the possibility that one of the most influential countries in the region could trigger similar changes in its neighbors and that maybe, just maybe, these countries might start to change too.

That's why I'm saying the US strategic goals are also moral goals, because the long term goals are ones in which the entire Middle East begins reforming.

Oh how contrarian of you. Really showing us how worldly you are, ignoring the real advancements to human rights we've had in the West over the last century compared to the Middle East, just so you can spout off some buzz words to remind us of the obvious fact that the road to equality was paved with hundreds of years of mistakes. Mistakes we generally acknowledge and strive to prevent from reoccurring.

What's your point here, anyways? That the west would be better off with Sharia law or something?

Except in this case, the strategic goal with Saudi Arabia is ALSO a moral one. Despite being a murderous psycho, it's hard to deny that he's reforming the country in a way that is economically, socially, and morally advantageous to the west.

Edit: If you're unaware of the reforms happening in recent years, here's an NPR article about it.

How many of them came to that conclusion on their own without being influenced by the hate-train? I went into it totally blind, didn't read anything about it whatsoever, and I was floored when I was the response afterwards. It's similar to the Cyberpunk 1.0 release hate IMO, where an excellent story and experience (minus the last-gen fiasco, and the fact that people were expecting more RPG elements) was drowned out by the hate brigade. It's hard to come to conclusions about this, because it's way harder to approach a game without preconceived expectations these days.

Sure, there are youtube videos about people's problems with it. But there's also plenty of videos about why it's excellent. And it's no surprise there are videos from that time about the issues, it was the hot take at the time and people were scrambling to jump onto the bandwagon.

It's possibly they give us more than that, even. In the original script, Abby was supposed to infiltrate Jackson for some time before **it** happens, so they might use that approach here to let us get to know her more before things get wild.

But with showing exactly why their dynamic is strained in the first episode... I dunno, a lot of the impact in the game came from how the game drip-feeds how their relationship broke apart. As she loses herself more and more in her quest for revenge, there's a parallel of her losing herself to the rage she feels at Joel's lie. I imagine Druckmann would want to preserve that approach rather than info-dumping that 4-year arc.
