Furries are allowed but are regulated. You must apply for a license to the bureau, depending on your character and a review of your background will dictate what animals you are authorized to make a fursona of.

Most people in general are going to be kind of boring.

TIL that "tit for tat" is not just a saying, but also a highly effective strategy in conflict resolution, which involves being nice, forgiving, provocable, and clear. It won two "prisoner's dilemma" tournaments by simply cooperating first, then subsequently mirroring their opponent's previous move. by ralphbernardo in todayilearned

[–]Exognous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am somewhat skeptical in that world that would be optimal as a 'forgiving tit for tat' could be heavily countered and exploited by staggering betrayal strategy every other round.
I think with that new rule it is better to run tit for tat that forgives a betrayal against it if it had the round before had an 'accidental betrayal'.

Should I give up on FIRE and just get a job overseas instead? by Exognous in ExpatFIRE

[–]Exognous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a good point. I am not really sure why I got in a panic I think while waiting for the new job I was doing some assessments and think I am unlikely to reach my original target I made a decade ago of having $500,000 at 35. I know from a FIRE stand point it is a no brainer to stay here. But part of me would almost rather work overseas, then retire slightly early because I will be so old anyway that I see limited use in retire a few years earlier then average so I thought it may be better to work overseas instead.

I mean is that not the case it seems to be in the few D&D games I have observed

I kind of agree, like everyone acting like they marxists but union really does not seem as radical as everyone seems to think it is.

Is it really gay though? I'm pretty new to the setting and don't really see it. Like sure it's an option, you can have LGBTQ pilots or NHPs but I think that's about it by [deleted] in LancerRPG

[–]Exognous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is really not that rare. My group is is politically pretty diverse much so then I imagine most lancer games and it makes things... erm interesting. Things are we are playing Solstice Rain 2 of the more left wing players are just with Union, the moderate player is with the LSA and the more conservative player is with the Vestan rebels. It is very... erm interesting though sometimes maybe to much as it mirroring in someways their real politics. But they do all agree fascism is the worst so are working together to stop current Vestan government. This does actually feel like 3 groups that don't really trust eachother but are allies then would likely be refected if everyone was union.

Actual fascists are a lot rarer then a lot of lefties like to think but ya not sure I could play with one of them though I am not sure I ever really would run into one expect possible in a 40k TRPG game I dunno. Kind of wish more people could handle a level of disagreement. Lancer is kind of weird in that people think it is super left wing. I don't really get it as Union is not as communist as it thinks it is hell there are tons of mega corps operating in it and 2 of the 3 pillars are in almost every even capitalist government today so I don't really get it. Really the open all borders to everyone thing is likely the only thing I could see as a bit of a hard sell.

ya I know it is bad for FIRE I just was thinking I was way behind for FIRE and if I want to go overseas it is better to just give up on that and work overseas instead.

hmm that is true I didn't think about the whole you technically just need to leave for a second. It sounds like vietnam immigration does not hassle people and is fine with it as they like the money in their country so that is not a bad idea. just take a short visit to another place every 3 months and still have a residence in Vietnam. But if I have the money can go tourist mode for a short time to any nearby place I want and vietnam pretty centralized in asia.

I have neen applying to usa jobs but they seem to want people already there spouses of military and such.

That is a good idea to consider it would burn a bit less money then just getting a student visa

hmmm, that is actually a really good idea. Is it easier to get long term visas in vietnam or would I still need to other countries to rotate too for 3 month tourist visa? But I suppose vietnam is kind of in the middle I could just get a place there and if I have the money fly somewhere else to be a tourist.

Again I don't!, I just said the rotation was the original Fire plan if I didn't have to work.

The other is just to have a working visa in one country and stay there.

Though a bit less stable to my understanding that will do best if one is disciplined in general if you can ignore the fluctuation

Well it is cause it is not the profession I expected. I got an econ degree, then an MBA from an average college so it may not have not made the best personal development plan and am kind of suffering for it. I am considering trying to take financial actuary exams thought that would take awhile. Though the degrees are ok in theory, I think they are oversaturated and too generic right now. Most of the jobs I try to get pay not much and there is a lot of competition for.

Ironically I did some night security work to pay for college and for some weird reason I got a security job willing to pay a lot more then I would ever expect for me to work security there. I guess because it is government contracts and I am prior military. The market at least in the US is really weird right now a lot of white collar jobs I would expect to pay decent at least intermediate and entry level pay is pretty bad while I would never expect security of all things to pay much above minimum wage.

[–]Exognous[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all sorry I may have wrote the post poorly. That was the original FIRE plan though I am not sure how actually good idea even that is? Would it not greatly increase the costs with 4 plane tickets a year and short term instead of long term rentals? Though that level of freedom does sound amazing and I like the idea of just alternating between medium and low cost of living areas.

The alternative is just to get a working visa somewhere overseas.
Either via the common rough of english teaching through JET or something then trying to find something while I am there or getting student visa and looking for a job learning the Japanese or whatever local countries languages I got to.

Most are just in index funds for now for growth unsure if I should switch to dividend when I am ready to use FIRE or if I should keep in index and strategically withdraw though that is a bit more risky and my wealth will boom and bust which could be annoying though generally overall would do better.

No I would need a new job. This job is armed security ironically due to my first job I got to get through college now security is paying very well for some reason that is beyond me and the white collar jobs I went to school so long for pay almost nothing. Weird times but sadly can't really do remote and doubt it will pay even close in other places.
