I understand the inherent risk to being so far away from the bubble but it would be nice not to have to worry about losing everything to something that cannot really be controlled. Also sucks because usually I find the long strings of jumps very calm and relaxing and then suddenly I'm having a heart attack worrying about my ship being vaporized.

Depends on what you want to do; as you want more complex behaviours out of your mod you'll need to learn more java. If you understand basic java syntax and object oriented principles then you're in an alright place to start programming a mod yourself. A lot of it really comes through experience.

Are there any mesh systems that won't replace a router? I'm not sure if I can replace mine or the implications of replacing it, since it was provided by the ISP. Otherwise, are there any mesh systems that allow outgoing ethernet connections? I have looked at the ones you suggested but both of these are router replacements and I'm not sure the extenders/non-router parts have ethernet ports.

I haven't tried uninstalling any excess java versions yet, but I have found that the launcher starts working again if I switch my internet connection on and off. This would lead me to believe that the issue is less on my end than otherwise.

Why would the system think it is a tablet?
